No. 6 Kansas Avoids Upset, Tops Temple

Jamie Squire/Getty Images(LAWRENCE, Kan.) -- The final non-conference test for the Kansas Jayhawks was a tough one.

The sixth-ranked Jayhawks got 16 points from Kevin Young and held off the Temple Owls, 69-62 at Allen Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Jeff Withey had eight points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks in an all-around effort. "Altogether we couldn't do too much until the last few minutes of the game," Withey said. "Crunch time, we played like we were supposed to."

Travis Releford hit a three-pointer that beat the shot clock for the Jayhawks (12-1) with 34.9 seconds left that put the game away.

Temple (10-3) was looking to beat a second top-10 opponent this season, but could not make the final push. Khalif Wyatt had 26 points to lead the way for the Owls. "They made some runs, we made some runs," he said. "It came down to the last three, four minutes and we made a couple bad decisions, a couple bad shots."

Kansas has won 11 in a row.
