Ovechkin's Hat Trick Lifts Caps Over Devils

Bruce Bennett/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- Alex Ovechkin produced his first hat trick in over two years leading the Washington Capitals to a 5-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Ovechkin has struggled this season, but on Saturday his 11th career hat trick led the Capitals (6-10-1, 13 pts) to a much needed victory.

"You want to see your go-to guy get some," head coach Adam Oates said. "Him scoring first for us gets the place going. The fans love him. The place is rocking. It obviously helps the team."

Ilya Kovalchuk scored at the end of the second period for the Devils (10-4-4, 24 pts), but Washington exploded for four goals in the third to seal the victory.

Braden Holtby made 21 saves in goal for the Cap's, while Johan Hedberg started between the pipes for the Devils.
