Packers' Cedric Benson Out at Least 8 Weeks with Lisfrank Injury

Jeff Gross/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Green Bay Packers may be without one of their primary running backs for the foreseeable future. Cedric Benson has suffered a Lisfranc foot injury and will be out for at least eight weeks. He could even miss the rest of the season if doctors determine he needs surgery according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Benson will undergo further evaluations from doctors. He has already taken an MRI, which is also being evaluated from doctors.

The 29-year-old suffered a sprained left foot early in the second quarter of the team's loss against the Indianapolis Colts. He was carted off the field and reportedly was wearing a walking boot after the game. The team is expected to turn to Alex Green at running back.

"Alex did some good things (against the Colts)," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "There's some things he'll definitely learn from. ... (He is) a young boy that took advantage of an opportunity, and this will be an opportunity for him and James (Starks) and Brandon (Saine) to play this week against Houston."

Benson was in his first year with the Packers and ran for a team-high 248 yards.
