(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) -- It could end up being a long season for the New York Giants, as they fell to the Carolina Panthers 38-0 on Sunday.
The loss dropped the Giants to 0-3 on the season, and it was also the most lopsided loss in the Tom Couglin era.
According to Stats LLC: of the 161 teams that have the started 0-3 since 1978, only five have made the playoffs.
Giants quarterback Eli Manning completed just 12 of 23 passes for 119 yards and an interception. Running back David Wilson continued to struggle as well, as he had 39 rushing yards on 11 carries.
Meanwhile, for the Panthers they picked up their first win of the season, and for the time being, quieted talks about head coach Ron Rivera's job security.
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had 223 passing yards with three touchdowns, and added 45 rushing yards, including a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
The Panthers had 402 total yards of offense while the Giants managed just 150.
