Pats Rule Out Edelman and Blount for Sunday's Showdown with Jets

Jim Rogash/Getty Images(EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) -- The New England Patriots (11-3) will be without leading receiver Julian Edelman and running back LeGarrette Blount for their important road game versus the New York Jets (3-11) Sunday, the team announced Saturday.

Blount is dealing with a shoulder injury and was a limited participant in practice all week. Without Blount, the Pats should use more of Jonas Gray and Shane Vereen against a Jets' rush defense that ranks fourth in the NFL in yards allowed per game.

Meanwhile, Edelman, who was also limited in practice all week, is dealing with the affects of concussion he suffered within the last week.

Edelman has played in all 14 games for the Patriots this season. During that time he has 92 catches for 972 yards and five touchdowns (one coming via a punt return).

The game is big for playoff seeding for New England. A win secures the Patriots a first-round bye in the playoffs. Also, a Pats win coupled with a Denver loss earns them the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
