Pierce Once Again Proves He's "The Truth," Nails Buzzer-Beater to Lift Wizards

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- The Washington Wizards may not have had John Wall, but thankfully for them, they had Paul Pierce.

Pierce banked in a buzzer-beating 21-foot jumper with two guys in his face to give the Wizards a 103-101 victory over the Atlanta Hawks in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Saturday.

The Wizards now lead the best-of-seven series 2-1.

Pierce, who is nicknamed "The Truth," was asked by ESPN after the game if he called "bank" on his game-winner, to which Pierce replied, "I called game."

Despite the enjoyment the Wizards' fans must have gotten from the shot, the game probably should have never came down to that. Washington held a 19-point lead heading into the fourth quarter but Atlanta went on a 17-0 run to cut its deficit to three with 3:12 remaining. The Hawks then tied the game with 14.1 seconds left when Mike Muscala hit a 3-pointer to make the score 101-101.

The Wizards played without star guard John Wall for the second straight game due to a broken left hand. Otto Porter Jr. picked up the slack by scoring 17 points, grabbing nine boards and dishing out four assists. Bradley Beal and Nene Hilario each had 17 points as well.

Game 4 of the series is Monday night in Washington.
