Rajon Rondo Out For Season With Torn ACL

NBA via Boston Celtics (BOSTON) -- The Boston Celtics received some horrible news on Sunday afternoon.

Point guard Rajon Rondo will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL and is expected to miss the rest of the season.  Rondo suffered the injury Friday night when he hyperextended his right knee in a game against the Atlanta Hawks.

No surgery date has been scheduled as of yet, and Rondo's expected recovery time is unknown.

In 38 games this season, Rondo is averaging 13.7 points and 11.1 assists-per-game for the Celtics, who as of Sunday are clinging to the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Rondo is the fourth NBA guard to suffer a torn ACL in the last year, joining Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, Ricky Rubio of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Iman Shumpert of the New York Knicks.
