Red Sox And C Mike Napoli Finalize A One-Year Contract

The deal is reportedly worth $5 million, according to The Boston Herald. The agreement could be worth $13 million if he meets certain health-based incentivies.

The 31-year-old Napoli originally agreed to a three-year, $39 million contract with the BoSox in early December, but that deal collapsed because of concerns over Napoli’s balky hip.

The former All-Star batted .227 with 24 home runs and 56 RBIs in 352 at-bats with the Texas Rangers last season.

To make room for Napoli on the 40-man roster, Boston designated right-handed pitcher Chris Carpenter for assignment.
