Richard Petty Bringing Back 'Petty Blue' at Phoenix

Jamey Price/NASCAR(NEW YORK) -- Petty Blue will be back in action at this weekend's Phoenix International Speedway Sprint Cup race.  NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty and Smithfield Foods, primary sponsor of the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford, will have his signature blue that he made famous painted on Aric Almirola's car.

Smithfield will promote its five major brands with much simpler designs, featuring mainly white logos placed atop the iconic shade.

"I think bringing back Petty Blue makes everything easier for everyone," the 75-year-old Petty said. "It's easier for the fans to find the car on the racetrack. It's easier on Smithfield and all our sponsors to stand out. It's easier on the guys who paint up the cars. And it's easier for me because now I can wear all my Petty Blue stuff again. I got a house full of it."

Almirola is in his second full-time season in the Sprint Cup Series and finished 13th at last Sunday's Daytona 500.
