Rodgers Lights Up Washington in Green Bay Win

Tom Lynn /Getty Images(GREEN BAY, Wis.) -- Aaron Rodgers made sure the Green Bay Packers didn't start the season 0-2.

Rodgers completed 34-of-42 passes for a career-high 480 yards and four touchdowns, as the Packers blitzed the Washington Redskins 38-20 Sunday.

Rodgers' 480 yards passing also ties the Packers franchise record, that was set by Matt Flynn in 2012. But just because Rodgers played great, that doesn't mean he expected too.

“Not really. I didn’t feel great before the game. My neck was really bothering me and was stiff. I was hurting pretty bad," Rodgers said when asked if he thought he would have a great game. "I wasn’t feeling great pregame but once the adrenaline started going I just kind of got into a rhythm. They played a lot of one-high (safeties). They gave us some inside leverage routes, some in-breaking routes and we had a lot of yards after the catch today.”

Many of Rodgers passing yards went to James Jones. Jones had 11 catches for 178 yards in the win.

“I think he has proven over time what he’s capable of doing." Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said of Jones' performance. "One game doesn’t make an opinion of anybody in this league. It just runs for six days and then you have to get over it. JJ’s production today, I think JJ had a normal day. He was on fire. He had the one play down there in the red zone, he was trying to make a play with the football. We’re very pleased with our whole perimeter.”

Packers running back Eddie Lacy left the game in the first quarter with what turned out to be a concussion. Lacy was replaced by James Starks who rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III completed 26-of-40 passes for 320 yards, three touchdowns and an interception as Washington drops to 0-2.
