Safety Dashon Goldson Becoming a Leader in Tampa Bay

NFL via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed safety Dashon Goldson during the offseason for his All-Pro ability on the field.

Goldson spent his first six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and emerged as one of the best defensive backs in the NFL, earning NFL All-Pro honors in 2012. He wound up signing a five-year deal with the Buccaneers for $41.25 million. So far, it has been money well spent.

"He keeps those two young corners out there just working and no one asked him to do that, and that's just what veterans need to do," Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said. "I mean, you start looking at our veterans here now, guys like Dashon, and we have some that I can lean on and I think the organization can lean on and you need that, so I'm glad he's ours. He cares a lot."

In Schiano's first year in Tampa Bay, the team ranked first in the NFL in stopping the pass, but dead last in stopping the run.

The team's secondary is expected to be much improved after signing Goldston and trading for cornerback Darrelle Revis.
