Saints Hire Rob Ryan

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The New Orleans Saints hired Rob Ryan on Saturday to be their next defensive coordinator.

After being fired by the Dallas Cowboys last month, Ryan said he'd be out of work for "five minutes," but is ready for his new journey in New Orleans.

"I am excited and thrilled to be joining the New Orleans Saints," Ryan said. "I have had the opportunity to get to know (head coach) Sean Payton and his staff a bit better recently and I am excited about joining the team."

Head coach Sean Payton, who was recently reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell after being suspended for his role in the Saints bounty scandal, is excited to have Ryan apart of his staff.

"Rob is enthusiastic about joining our team and getting right to work," Payton said.

The Saints were 7-9 in 2012 and failed to make the playoffs.
