Source: Kershaw Offered $300 Million Contract

Jason Wise/MLB Photos via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers offered ace starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw want amounts to a lifetime contract worth approximately $300 million earlier this season, according to an ESPN source.

ESPN sources say, the Dodgers and the 25-year-old former Cy Young award winner didn't complete the deal because Kershaw wasn't sure of signing such a comprehensive deal, and he didn't want to negotiate within the season.

ESPN says that while a deal wasn't reached, some people with knowledge of the contract talks believe a deal could be reached this winter.

The contract is expected to be the largest ever for a pitcher.

Kershaw went 16-9 with a 1.83 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 232 strikeouts this season.
