(RIO DE JANEIRO) -- There will be a new World Cup champion this year, after defending champion Spain was knocked out of contention by Chile on Wednesday, 2-0.
Chile’s first goal came in the 19th minute when Eduardo Vargas faked out goalkeeper Iker Casillas for the score. The team's second goal occurred in the 43rd minute on a score by Charles Aranguiz.
With the loss and a 5-1 opening match defeat to the Netherlands, Spain will not advance to the round of 16. Chile will take on the Netherlands in Sao Paulo on Monday to determine the winner of Group B.
Spain captured the European Championships in 2008 and 2012, as well as the World Cup title in 2010.
