Stars Welcome GM Jim Nill to Dallas

Bruce Bennett/Getty Images(DALLAS) -- The Dallas Stars introduced Jim Nill as their new general manager on Monday, replacing the fired Joe Nieuwendyk.

The 55-year-old Nill spent the past 15 years as assistant general manager with Detroit. During his tenure in the front office, the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup championship four times.

On the ice, Nill played in the NHL for nine seasons for five different teams, retiring in 1990 with the Red Wings.

The Stars finished the 2013 campaign 11th in the Western Conference, with a record 22-22-4 and 48 points, missing the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season.
