Steelers' Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger Won't Start on Sunday

George Gojkovich/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- If the Pittsburgh Steelers hope to stay in the playoff race, they'll have to do it with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben will miss this Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Roethlisberger suffered a sprained throwing shoulder as well as rib damage this past Monday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Aside from the shoulder injury, team doctors are more concerned that Roethlisberger's rib injury could lead to further internal damage if he were to play on Sunday.

Replacing Roethlisberger at quarterback will be Byron Leftwich. The 32-year old Leftwich has appeared in just five games since the 2009 season. He has started just three games over that span and they all came when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009.

"I try to prepare as if I am the starter every week," Leftwich said. "Nothing will change. I wish Ben the best. I hope he is healthy. Other than that I will be ready to go."

In relief of Roethlisberger, Leftwich was 7-of-14 for 73 yards. The Ravens ranks 26th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game.
