Struggling Bruins Place Miller on IR

Kevan Miller was placed on injured reserve Thursday with a right shoulder injury. Miller had missed 12 games earlier this season with an injury to the same shoulder, but hadn't missed a game since returning to the ice on Nov. 21.

Despite playing, Miller had to wear a brace during games and practices, admitting there was a good chance he needed offseason surgery.

The 6-foot-2 Miller's shoulder was reinjured during the Bruins' 4-3 loss to the Calgary Flames Monday.

Miller has played in 41 games for the B's this season and has a plus-20 rating.

To replace Miller, the Bruins recalled 22-year-old Brian Ferlin from the team's AHL squad in Providence. This is the youngster's first NHL call-up of his career.
