Rams Stun Saints for First Win of the Season

Dilip Vishwanat/Getty Images(ST. LOUIS) -- Last week, the New Orleans Saints dominated the winless Indianapolis Colts 62-7 to improve to 5-2 on the season. So with their next game being against the winless St. Louis Rams, it should have been an easy win, right? Wrong.

With the World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals in attendance, the Rams came out firing and jumped out to a 17-0 lead a halftime -- the first time the Saints had been held scoreless at halftime since 2007.

Even though the Saints made a run, the Rams went on to upset the Saints 31-21 to earn their first victory of the season. Heading into the game, the Rams had one of the worst offenses in the NFL and a defense that wasn't anything to brag about. Meanwhile, the Saints had one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, but they couldn't get much going against the Rams.

This all happened without Rams starting quarterback Sam Bradford on the field because of an ankle injury. Backup quarterback A.J. Feely filled in nicely for Bradford for the second straight week, throwing for 175 yards and a touchdown. What is even more notable is that Feely won a start for the first time since he was with the Miami Dolphins -- back in 2004.

Rams running back Steven Jackson, who ran for 159 and two touchdowns, attributed part of the team's success on Sunday to the Cardinals who were in attendance watching the game.

"I think the Cardinals being here was great for the city," Jackson said. "Whoever showed up today, regardless if the place was empty, today was fun. We came out with a mindset we were going to fight."

After his big day, Jackson is now third all-time in Rams franchise history for yards from scrimmage, and fourth all-time in touchdowns with 59.
