Tampa Bay Releases Albert Haynesworth

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(TAMPA, Fla.) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. The two-time Pro Bowler joined the Bucs in early November after he was placed on waivers by the New England Patriots.

“I appreciate Albert playing for us after some key injuries this past season,” Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik said in a statement. “He was very professional and we now wish him all the best as he moves forward.”

Filling in for the injured Gerald McCoy, Haynesworth recorded 25 tackles in six games with Tampa Bay.

Haynesworth Heading To Tampa

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(TAMPA, Fla.) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have claimed defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth off waivers.

The two-time Pro Bowler was let go by the New England Patriots on Tuesday after recording just three tackles in six games this season.

The Bucs are hoping Haynesworth can fill a void created on the defensive line after losing Gerald McCoy for the season with a torn right bicep.

Patriots Release Albert Haynesworth

Jim Rogash/Getty Images(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) -- The New England Patriots have released former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth after just six games.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick maintains that Haynesworth's release was purely "rotation related."

"We had a lot of defensive lineman active, so they played in different rotations." said Belichick. " Vince [Wilfork] is a guy, obviously, that we don't want off the field. But the rest of those guys, they can't all play. One guy plays for a while then somebody else plays, and they rotate. ... We had Kyle [Love] Vince, Albert, Gerard [Warren], and Ron [Brace] -- it's kind of five guys for two spots there."

The Patriots acquired Haynesworth in a trade with the Washington Redskins after he spent just one season with the team and clashed with head coach Mike Shanahan. In exchange for Haynesworth, the Patriots sent the Redskins a fifth-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
