Andersen Leads Ducks to Game 1 Victory Over Blackhawks

Christian Petersen/Getty Images(ANAHEIM, Calif.) -- Frederik Andersen made 32 saves to lead the Anaheim Ducks past the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 Sunday in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.

Andersen shut down the Blackhawks high-flying offense, which features 10 players who had double digits in goals in the regular season.

"I think everyone in the locker room knows we can beat this team," Andersen said. "It's a good feeling that we showed it in Game 1. They're going to come harder. We'll have to play better in Game 2."

The Ducks got their scoring started in the first period when Hampus Lindholm slapped a shot through a cluster of players and past Corey Crawford.

Kyle Palmieri scored early in the second period to make it 2-0, but Brad Richards got the Blackhawks on the board at the end of the period by taking advantage of a turnover and snapping a shot past Andersen to make it 2-1.

Nate Thompson and Jakob Silfverberg scored in the third to give the Ducks their ninth win in 10 games this postseason.

Game 2 is Tuesday night in Anaheim. The puck is scheduled to drop at 9 p.m. ET.

Ducks Move on to Western Conference Finals

Debora Robinson/NHLI via Getty Images(ANAHEIM) -- Corey Perry endured a brutal hit from Flames center Matt Stajan and would return the pain in spades.

Perry scored the game winning goal 2:26 minutes into overtime to send the Anaheim Ducks onto the Western Conference Finals where the Chicago Blackhawks await.

Early in the second period, Stajan drove his hip hard into Perry with an open-ice check. Perry collapsed onto the ice and soon limped over to his bench. He returned a few minutes later, but obviously not at full strength.

“It was huge, you see him go down and hold your breath and hope he’s fine,” Ducks forward Matt Beleskey said. “He’s a guy who takes a beating every night, comes back and scores big goals, that’s why he’s one of the best players in the league.”

The Ducks tied the game early in the third when Francois Beauchimin fired a rocket of a shot on Karri Ramo. Beleskey was screening Ramo and tipped the puck past the Flames net minder.

In overtime, Cam Fowler fired a shot towards Ramo, the puck died in the crease and during the scrum Patrick Maroon and Perry both slashed away at the puck. It was Perry, who was fighting for position with Ramo, that pushed the puck into the net and defeated the Flames in five games.

Gary Bettman Dismisses "Katy Perry" Chants Towards Ducks Perry

Debora Robinson/NHLI via Getty Images

(NEW YORK) -- As the Stanley Cup Playoffs roll on in the NHL the intensity of both the player and the fans has been ratcheted up.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was asked if he found any issue with Anaheim Ducks winger Corey Perry having chants of "Katy Perry" directed at him by the fans.

“You’re suggesting that the crowd saying ‘Katy Perry’ to Corey Perry was sexist? Or misogynist?” he asked. “I don’t think taunting chants at players on the other side of the ice is intended to be sexist in the slightest. It’s like when you call a goaltender a sieve, they chant that. Is that now inappropriate also?”

The Anaheim Ducks swept the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the playoffs. Perry had seven points in the series, scoring three goals and adding four assists.

Ducks Lose F Jackman for 4-6 Weeks

iStockPhoto/Thinkstock(ANAHEIM, Calif.) -- Anaheim Ducks forward Tim Jackman will miss the next four to six weeks due to a lower-body injury.

The 33-year-old Jackman was injured in the team's win Sunday over Dallas when he collided with Stars' winger Ales Hemsky.

Just last month, Jackman agreed to a one-year, $700,000 contract extension.

In 53 games this season, the 6-foot-2, 225 pound Jackman has five goals and two assists.

"We’re noted for (being) a big, strong, heavy team," Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau said. "You lose Matt Beleskey for a period, you lose Tim Jackman for a period, but we'll have to overcome. Everybody's got injuries."

Ducks Acquire Tomas Fleischmann from Panthers

iStockPhoto/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- The Anaheim Ducks acquired winger Tomas Fleischmann from the Florida Panthers in exchange for winger Dany Heatley and a third round pick in the 2015 draft.

The 30-year-old Fleischmann has played in 52 games this season scoring seven goals and tallying 21 points.

Fleischmann is reunited with his former head coach whom he played for in Washington, Bruce Boudreau. With Boudreau at the helm during the 2009-10 season, Fleischmann scored 23 goals and dished out 28 assists.

According to ESPN.com, the Ducks will pay Heatley's $1 million salary to help compensate for Fleischmann's $4.5 million salary.

The 34-year-old Heatley has only played six games for the Ducks this season. The rest of the season he spent playing with the AHL Norfolk Admirals, collecting seven points in 25 games.

It is expected Heatley will report to AHL San Antonio.
