Texans' Andre Johnson Would Welcome Some Help At Wide Receiver

Rob Tringali/SportsChrome/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Houston Texans will use the 2013 NFL Draft as a chance to improve their team anyway they can. Wide receiver Andre Johnson hopes that includes drafting a wide receiver.

Johnson is still one of the most dominant receivers in the NFL, but as he gets older, he realizes he needs more help. The Texans had one of the top offenses last year, but that was in large part due to Johnson along with running back Arian Foster. Kevin Walter, the team's number two wide receiver in 2012, caught just 41 passes with two touchdowns last season.

"I'd like to have another [receiver]," Johnson told John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. "I'm all for it. I've asked for it for a while. The more weapons we have, the better it'll be for the team."

"If we draft a receiver, I'm going to help him as much as I can," Johnson added. "I'll answer any questions he has because I want him to perform well."

Johnson turns 32 the July, which isn't exactly the ideal age for a wide receiver in the NFL.

Despite his age, Johnson has an incredibly productive 2012 season. He caught 112 passes for 1,598 yards with four touchdowns.

Patriots Stomp Texans To Advance

Elsa/Getty Images(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) -- The Houston Texans thought a rematch against the New England Patriots could be different. They were wrong.

Tom Brady threw three touchdown passes and the Patriots overpowered the Houston Texans 41-28 in their AFC Divisional Playoff game to advance to the AFC championship game.

Houston's Danieal Manning nearly ran the opening kickoff back a touchdown, but was tackled within the 10 yard line and the Texans had to settle for a field goal.

Then, little-known Shane Vereen got it going by scoring a short rushing touchdown to give the Patriots a lead they would never relinquish. Vereen had two rushing scores and one receiving on the day.

Houston had hoped to get revenge for a 42-14 loss at the hands of the Patriots earlier in the year, but could not overcome New England's offense. Texans quarterback Matt Schaub had 343 yards passing with an interception.

For Brady, it was his 17th playoff victory which is the most in NFL history. New England will face Baltimore next week for a trip to the Super Bowl.

Texans rally past Jaguars in OT, 43-37

Tom Cammett/Diamond Images/Getty Images(HOUSTON) -- The Houston Texans survived the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-9) in overtime, 43-37 on Sunday.  Jacksonville came into the game as one of the NFL’s worst teams, but put up a fight all game long.

Matt Shaub hit Andre Johnson with a screen pass and Johnson took it 48 yards into the end zone in overtime to improve Houston’s record to 9-1.  The connection with Johnson was a career high for Schaub with five touchdown passes in the game.

Chad Henne came into the game for Jacksonville after Blaine Gabbert suffered an injury and threw for 354 yards and a career high four touchdown passes in the loss.

The Texans will have a short work week and will travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

Texans' Andre Johnson Hurts Groin in Practice

Rob Tringali/SportsChrome/Getty Images(HOUSTON) -- Houston Texans Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson pulled a muscle in his groin during practice on Sunday morning.

Head coach Gary Kubiak does not believe that the injury is serious, but Johnson has a long history of injuries in his career.

"We don't think it's anything significant," Kubiak said. "Obviously, Andre's worked so hard to get back and get back on the field full speed, so it's disappointing. But I don't think we're staring at anything significant."

Johnson missed nine games last season with hamstring injuries and had arthroscopic knee surgery in the spring, which sidelined him for 3-4 weeks during the teams' organized activities.

Kubiak expects Johnson to miss a few practices, but no timetable is set right now.

Texans' Andre Johnson Expected Back After Bye

Thomas B. Shea/Getty Images(HOUSTON) -- After missing the past six games, Houston Texans All-Pro wide receiver Andre Johnson is expected to return to the team's lineup after their upcoming bye-week. Johnson suffered a hamstring injury back in week four's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Johnson's return couldn't come at a better time. The team just lost starting quarterback Matt Schaub to a leg injury that will keep him out the rest of the season. Former Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart -- who hasn't even thrown a pass since 2009 -- will take over for Schaub.

"It's a great offense to be a part of," Leinart said. "And now we get the best receiver in the NFL back, which is awesome to have. That's going to be great."

Despite Johnson's absence, the Texans are 7-3, boasting the best record in the AFC. The offense hasn't missed a beat either, as the Texans rank third in the NFL in total points
