Cavaliers J.R. Smith Suspended Two Games

Jim McIssac/Getty Images

(CLEVELAND) -- The NBA has suspended J.R. Smith two games after the Cavaliers guard backhanded Boston Celtics forward Jae Crowder, the league announced Monday.

During the third quarter of Cleveland's game four victory over Boston, Smith smacked Crowder in the face under the net. He was assessed a flagrant-2 foul and was immediately ejected.

"This is a situation that I put my teammates in, and it's a selfish act because I don't want anything that we do collectively to be taken away by one individual, whether it's me or anybody else,'' said Smith.

The Cavaliers will face the winner of the Bulls, Bucks series in the next round of the NBA playoffs.

Cavaliers Sweep Celtics, Love Hurts Shoulder

Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images(BOSTON) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers took care of business and swept the Boston Celtics out of the first round of the playoffs on Sunday 101-93.

Kevin Love left in the first quarter after suffering a dislocated shoulder and did not return and is questionable moving forward in the playoffs.

"That's just not a basketball play," Love said of the way Celtics forward Kelly Olynyk tangled up his right arm with Love's left.  "I expect it to be physical, but when it has to go to that length it's just not the way it's supposed to be, that's not how you play basketball."

LeBron James scored 27 and Kyrie Irving added 24 in the sweep.

"It didn't look like a basketball play," James said of the Love injury.  "I've seen a lot of tie-ups in my day and that tie-up was a little different."

"You want to play the game of basketball the right way, but you never want it to get out of hand when you have injuries," James continued.

Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas had 21 in the loss and Avery Bradley finished with 16.

LeBron James Leads Cavs to 3-0 Series Lead vs Celtics

Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images(BOSTON) -- LeBron James scored 31 points in his first playoff game in Boston since a masterful performance in the 2012 postseason, helping the Cavaliers move one win away from a sweep in its first playoff series in five years with a 103-95 victory Thursday night.

James arrived an hour early at the morning shootaround, accompanied by teammate J.R. Smith. It was a sign of his leadership, according to coach David Blatt.

"He didn't necessarily have to," Blatt said, "but he wanted to be with his teammate."

Smith had his best game of the series, with 15 points.

Cleveland can complete the sweep of the best-of-seven series Sunday in Boston. No NBA team has won a series after trailing 3-0.

LeBron James, Kyrie Irving Give Cavs 2-0 Lead over Celtics

Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images(CLEVELAND) -- LeBron James scored 30 points and Kyrie Irving added 26 as the Cleveland Cavaliers finally shook off Boston for a 99-91 victory Tuesday night to take a 2-0 lead in their opening-round series.

James moved past Hall of Famer Jerry West on the career playoff scoring list and made sure the Cavs didn't slip up at home. James and Irving combined for all of Cleveland's 24 points in the final period, and the Cavs' final 28 over the last 17:29.

"I've been in this moment before, and a lot of our guys haven't," James said. "I thought it was important for me to put a stamp on this game."

Game 3 is Thursday night in Boston, where James' first stint with Cleveland ended with a playoff loss back in 2010.

Love Gets First Playoff Victory, Cavs Beat Celtics, 113-100

Christian Petersen/Getty Images(CLEVELAND) -- After six seasons in the NBA, Kevin Love finally experienced a playoff game and victory on Sunday in the Cavaliers 113-100 win over the Celtics in round one of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Love scored 19 in the win and Kyrie Irving scored 30 in his first playoff game.  LeBron James added 20 in the win.

"I just try to find a way to get [Love] touches," James said.  "Even though he was missing shots early, those were great shots and he was very aggressive and I just wanted him to stay with it."

Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas scored 22 points and 10 assists in the loss and Avery Bradley was held to seven points.

"We're still confident," Thomas said. "Guys are ready for Game 2, knowing that good or bad you've got to have a short memory. There are possibly seven games in this series and it could go either way."

Celtics Book Postseason Return After Nets Lose to Bulls

iStock/Thinkstock(BOSTON) -- The Boston Celtics clinched a postseason berth on Monday night thanks to Brooklyn's 113-86 loss to Chicago.

Boston was a season-worst 14 games under .500 and four games out of a playoff spot Feb. 2 but has since gone 22-12 to move into seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

"We didn't even know we had a chance back in the beginning of January," Tyler Zeller said after Sunday's 117-78 win over undermanned Cleveland. "It says a lot about the group we have just coming out every night and competing."

Despite getting in, coach Brad Stevens is unlikely to rest his players for Tuesday's game against Toronto. The Celtics (38-42) had a chance to clinch a berth Sunday had Indiana lost to Oklahoma City, and when asked if that would change anything, Stevens said, "Toronto walk-through at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Nothing changes at all.  We're going to keep gaining steam here."

If the Celtics finish in seventh, they'll face the Cavaliers in the first round. Sunday's game wasn't much of a playoff preview, however, as Cleveland rested LeBron James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving with the No. 2 seed locked up.
