Pete Carroll Clarifies Bruce Irvin's Atlanta Comments

Stephen Brashear/Getty Images(SEATTLE) -- After rumors surfaced of a potential draft day trade and comments of a potential exit from Seattle, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll clarified the situation surrounding defender Bruce Irvin.

After Irvin commented to BlackSportsOnline.com that "I'm going to be in Atlanta next season," at an Atlanta Hawks playoff game, many assumed that the Seahawks linebacker would reunite with former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn who assumed the head coaching position this season with the Falcons.

"I'm really glad you asked me that, because he didn't say that," Carroll said. "We've been talking all along. He has been working out in Atlanta for these three weeks, and he said (that) in response to the question 'Do you want to come back home?' He said everybody likes to come back home, and it's a dream to come back home. It wasn't in reference to leaving us and coming back (to the Falcons). He was really adamant about it, and I asked him to leave it and not go at it anymore."

The Seahawks recently declined Irvin's fifth-year option on his rookie contract, which would allow him to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2015 season.

"Anybody can put those messages out, and they have a life to them," Carroll said. "Our guys are getting better at understanding that, and Bruce has learned again from this lesson."

Seahawks LB Bruce Irvin Says He'll Be Playing in Atlanta in 2016

Stephen Brashear/Getty Images(ATLANTA) -- Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin says he will be playing for the Atlanta Falcons come the 2016 NFL season.

"I'm going to be in Atlanta next season," Irvin told BlackSportsOnline.com while attending the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals in Atlanta on Wednesday night. "I'm ready."

The Seahawks did not pick up the fifth-year option on Irvin's contract, which would have cost the team $7.8 million in 2016.  Irvin will be making $1.6 million in 2015.

Irvin is from Atlanta, and he's interested in joining former Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who is now the head coach of the Falcons.

Seahawks' Defensive End Bruce Irvin Suspended

Stephen Brashear/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Seattle Seahawks defensive end Bruce Irvin will not be on the field to start the 2013-14 season.

The pass rusher was suspended for the first four games of next season for league's performance-enhancing drug policy.

"I want to apologize to my teammates, coaches and Seahawks fans for making a mistake when I took a substance that is prohibited in the NFL without a medical exemption," Irvin said in a statement. "I am extremely disappointed in the poor judgment I showed and take full responsibility for my actions. I will not appeal the discipline and instead will focus my energy on preparing for the season so I can begin earning your trust and respect again. I look forward to contributing to the team the moment I return."

He will be eligible to return to the Seahawk's roster on September 30. During his suspension, he will be allowed to take part in all offseason practices and preseason games.

Irvin had eight sacks as a rookie out of West Virginia last season for Seattle.

Seahawks Lose Clemons To Torn ACL

Win McNamee/Getty Images(RENTON, Wash.) -- The Seattle Seahawks are moving on in the playoffs, but will do so without one of their top defensive players.

Defensive end Chris Clemons tore his ACL and meniscus against the Washington Redskins in their 24-14 win on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the season.

"It's a big loss for us in a lot of ways," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "Chris has been a great football player and just a symbol of consistency in the years that we've had him, but he's been a great leader for us too and a tough dude and a guy we've become very comfortable playing with and we'll miss the heck out of him."

This season, Clemons has 11 1/2 sacks this season, and is one of the top pass rushing threats for the Seahawks. Rookie Bruce Irvin will start in his place after recording a rookie record eight sacks this season.

Seattle plays on the road against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Peyton Manning gets Hit, Broncos Fall to Seahawks, 30-10

Justin Edmonds/Getty Images(DENVER) -- The questions can stop now on whether or not Peyton Manning can bounce back up after taking a hard hit.  Manning went down to the ground on Saturday night in the Broncos' 30-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks with 1:25 left in the first half.

Defensive end Bruce Irvin got to Manning after he passed right tackle Orlando Franklin for a square hit on Manning.

"He didn't say anything. He moaned a little bit, though," Irvin said. "So I guess he really felt it. It was a good hit, good play and now it's time to move on."

Manning would get back up and throw a 22-yard completion to Brandon Stokley on the next play.

"I never heard a crowd cheer for an incompletion before," Manning said of the hit. "I think the next pass was to Stokley, right? That's what I told you I was going to do."

Manning finished the game going 16 for 23 with 177 yards passing and two interceptions, his next test will come on August 26 against the San Francisco 49ers.
