Reds Place Cueto on the DL

Jason Wise/MLB Photos via Getty Images(CINCINNATI) -- The Cincinnati Reds put pitcher Johnny Cueto on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a strained right lat muscle.

Cueto left Sunday's game against the Pirates in the fifth inning with right triceps pain. After being examined by team doctor Timothy Kremcheck, it was found Cueto's problem was in his back.

The Reds called up right-handed reliever Justin Freeman from Triple-A Louisville to take Cueto's roster spot.

Top pitching prospect Tony Cingrani is expected to be called up from Triple-A to make Cueto's start Thursday.

Cueto (1-0), who won 19 games for the Reds last season, has a 2.60 ERA, 18 strikeouts and 1.04 WHIP in three starts this season.
