Indians Activate OF Nick Swisher From 15-Day Disabled List

Photos.com/Thinkstock(CLEVELAND) -- The Cleveland Indians activated outfielder Nick Swisher from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Swisher missed the first month of the season rehabbing from bilateral knee surgery that cut his 2014 season short last August. In a rehab assignment with the Columbus Clippers, he batted .375 with two doubles, one home run and 5 RBIs across six games.

To make room on the major league roster, the Indians optioned outfielder Tyler Holt to Triple-A Columbus.

Bauer Leads Indians Over White Sox, 4-2

Photos.com/Thinkstock(CLEVELAND) -- Indians starting pitcher Trevor Bauer (2-0) struck out eight batters over six innings of work as Cleveland (3-5) doubled up the Chicago White Sox (3-5) on Wednesday afternoon, 4-2.

Bauer allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks. His ERA on the season is 1.50. Closer Cody Allen earned his second save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

With Cleveland staked to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall took a 2-1 pitch from White Sox starter John Danks (0-2) and belted a two-run double. The Indians would tack on another run in the fifth on an RBI single from first baseman Carlos Santana.

Indians P Carlos Carrasco Hit In Face By Line Drive

Brian D. Kersey/Getty Images(CLEVELAND) -- Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco was treated at a hospital for a bruised jaw after he was carted off the field in the top of the first inning of Tuesday night's 4-1 loss, when Chicago White Sox outfielder Melky Cabrera hit a line drive back to the mound, connecting with the pitcher's face.

Carrasco was flattened by the sharp liner that appeared to glance off his glove and right hand before smacking him on the right side of the face. The right-hander fell to the ground in front of the mound as manager Terry Francona and a trainer quickly raced out to check on him.

Following the game, Francona said X-rays and a CT scan on Carrasco were negative and that he only suffered a bad bruise. Carrasco felt good enough to return to Progressive Field before the game ended. He'll be re-evaluated on Wednesday.

Indians C Yan Gomes Out 6-8 Weeks with MCL Sprain

Major League Baseball(CLEVELAND) --  Yan Gomes is expected to miss six to eight weeks after an MRI confirmed that the Indians catcher has a sprained right knee.

The Indians placed Gomes on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, one day after he injured his knee on a play at the plate in Cleveland's loss to the Detroit Tigers. The team provided a medical update on Gomes during Sunday's series finale.

The Indians said an MRI performed at the Cleveland Clinic revealed Gomes suffered a "moderate'' sprain to his MCL. His leg was jolted violently by Detroit outfielder Rajai Davis, who slid hard on a force play and clipped the catcher's right leg. Gomes was extended at the time like a first baseman making a catch.

"Losing Gomes, man, that can be a season-killer," Indians manager Terry Francona said Sunday.

Last season, Gomes led all AL catchers in average (.278) and extra-base hits (49). He was second in RBIs (74) and homers (21) and handled one of baseball's youngest starting staffs.

Indians & Carrasco Agree to 4-Year Contract

Getty Image(CLEVELAND) -- The Cleveland Indians and starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco agreed to a four-year contract, the club announced on Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The contract also includes club options for 2019 and 2020.

Carrasco originally signed as an amateur free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2003. He was traded to the Indians in 2009 along with pitcher Jason Knapp, infielder Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson for outfielder Ben Francisco and pitcher Cliff Lee.

In five seasons with Cleveland, Carrasco has compiled a record of 19-26 along with a 4.30 ERA. Last season, he went 8-7 with a 2.55 ERA. The right-hander struck out 140 batters in 134 innings of work.

Carrasco and the Indians agreed to a one-year deal in January worth $2,337,500.
