ESPN: Browns Trade Quarterback Colt McCoy to 49ers

Jason Miller/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The San Francisco 49ers needed a new backup quarterback after trading away Alex Smith, and they've reportedly found their man. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the team has traded for Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy.

In the trade, the 49ers will receive McCoy along with the Browns' sixth-round pick, while the 49ers will send the Browns picks in the fifth and sixth rounds.

McCoy's future with the Browns became cloudy when they signed quarterback Jason Campbell recently to compete with the team's 2012 first-round draft pick, quarterback Brandon Weeden.

Cleveland drafted McCoy in the third round of the 2010 draft. While he played well in spurts, he was unable to convince the Browns that he was capable of being a starting quarterback in the NFL. He went 6-15 as a starter and threw for 4,338 yards and 21 touchdowns over the past three seasons.

McCoy will now compete with Scott Tolzien for the backup quarterback job to starter Colin Kaepernick.

No. 13 Oklahoma Thrashes No. 15 Texas, 63-21

Tom Pennington/Getty Image(DALLAS, TX) --  The No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners used their high powered offense to rout the No. 15 Texas Longhorns at home, 63-21.

Sooner quarterback Landry Jones threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns, but it was backup Blake Bell who stole the show.  The 6-6 sophomore had 11 carries for 34 yards and four touchdowns.

Running back Damien Williams scored on a 95-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, which went for the longest rush in the history of the Red River Rivalry.  Fullback Trey Millard caught five passes for a career-high 119 yards and a touchdown for the Sooners. (4-1, 2-1 Big 12)

This was the second consecutive blowout for Oklahoma in the series, which dates back a long time.  Oklahoma crushed Texas 55-17 last season.

Texas (3-2, 1-2) lost quarterback David Ash in the fourth quarter.  He left the game with an apparent left wrist injury.

Backup Case McCoy, the brother of Cleveland Browns backup quarterback Colt McCoy, came into and threw two touchdown passes for the Longhorns.

Brandon Weeden Named Browns Starting QB

David Dermer/Diamond Images/Getty Images(BEREA, Ohio) --  Brandon Weeden will be the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns for the 2012 season and for the forseeable future.

Browns head coach Pat Shurmur announced on Monday that Weeden, the No. 22 overall pick in April's NFL draft will start Friday night's preseason opener in Detroit.

"Brandon is the starter and we're moving forward," Shurmur said. "We're rolling and I'm not looking back."

Weeden has taken snaps with Cleveland's first-team offense throughout the duration of training camp. He was pleased by the decision.

Last season's starter and former Texas Longhorn Colt McCoy is left to compete with veteran Seneca Wallace for the backup job.

McCoy started 13 games for the Browns in 2011.

Browns Finalize Deal With Rookie QB

David Dermer/Diamond Images/Getty Images(CLEVELAND) -- The Cleveland Browns came to terms on Tuesday with rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden. The No. 22 overall pick in this year's draft out of Oklahoma State signed just one day before the Browns are set to take the field for their first practice of training camp.

Weeden is set to make $8.1 million over four years, though the fourth year comes with only a partial guarantee.

He is expected to compete for the starting quarterback position along with former Texas standout Colt McCoy.

Weeden enters the NFL at 28 years old, and will look to ignite a Browns team desperate for a franchise quarterback.  No quarterback has started more than eight games in four consecutive seasons for Cleveland in almost two decades.

On Monday, fellow Browns rookie, runningback Trent Richardson, agreed to a four-year, $20.4 million fully guaranteed contract that includes a $13.6 million signing bonus.  Richardson was the third overall pick in April's draft.

Steelers' Harrison Upset About McCoy Situation

Pittsburgh Steelers/NFL(PITTSBURGH) -- The NFL announced on Tuesday it would be putting trainers into the press box following the hit that was put on Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy. However, Steelers linebacker James Harrison isn't so happy that the Browns were not punished for the hit.

Harrison, who put the helmet-to-helmet hit on McCoy is still questioning how the Browns got out of any fines or suspensions.

"If he was hurt so bad I don't know why they let him back in...two plays later," Harrison said. "Something should be done to them, I would think. I don't know. I got a game, what should they get?"

League spokesman Greg Aiello has already said that the Browns will not be penalized for their handling of McCoy's injury.
