Ron Vesely/MLB Photos via Getty Images(CHICAGO) --  Cubs manager Dale Sveum announced Saturday that pitcher Matt Garza will make his first major league start in 10 months Tuesday, when the Cubs take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Garza missed the final two months of last season with a right elbow strain and has been out this season with a strained left latissimus muscle.

Garza pitched six-innings of shutout ball for Triple-A Iowa Thursday, striking out six.

Sveum says Garza will likely be held to 85 to 90 pitch limit on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old Garza has made 167 starts in his seven major league seasons. During that period he has compiled a 57-61 record, a 3.84 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 865 strikeouts.

Yankees Place Kevin Youkilis on DL

Robert Rogers/MLB Photos via Getty Images(NEW YORK) --  Add Kevin Youkilis to the list of injured Yankees. The New York baseball club placed Youkilis on the disabled list because of a lumbar spine sprain, the team announced Tuesday.

Youkilis had missed eight of the past nine games because of what was described as a stiff back by Yankees manager Joe Girardi.  He played in last Saturday's game against Toronto, which cost the team the chance to back-date his stint on the DL.

Now Youkilis won't be eligible to return to action until mid-May at the earliest.

The 34-year-old Youkilis is hitting .266 with two home-runs and seven RBIs.  He will be replaced at third base by Jayson Nix.

Aside from Youkilis, the long list of players on the disabled list for the Yankees are captain Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez, Ivan Nova, Francisco Cervelli and Michael Pineda.

"It's not a pain, it just doesn't feel like my other side, it just feels like something is different," Lawrie told MLB.com. "If something's different, we've got to address that, we've got to get it better, I've got to ease on the brakes here and let it get better."

Lawrie was placed on the disabled list retroactive to March 22, and will be eligible to return April 6.

The 23-year-old Lawrie hit .273 with 11 home runs and 48 RBIs last season for the Jays.

Rob Carr/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- It looks like Dustin Pedroia will go to the disabled list after all. Pedroia is expected to be placed on the disabled list Friday for a new injury he obtained to his right thumb, a major league source told the Boston Herald.

Pedroia is thought to have injured his thumb while diving for a ball in Tuesday's game versus the Oakland Athletics. Pedroia already missed six games last month with a partially torn abductor muscle in the same thumb. The current injury is said to be in a different place in the thumb.

Red Sox Place Dice-K on the DL

Major League Baseball(OAKLAND, Calif) -- After missing the first two months of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery, Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka is about to miss some more time. The 31-year-old right hander is headed to the 15 day disabled list with a strain of his right trapezius muscle.

Matsuzaka experienced tightness in the same area in spring training and then again while rehabbing in May.

"We're going to try to give it some more time and see if it doesn't go away for good this time," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said.

Dice-K was removed in the second inning of Boston's 6-1 defeat against the Oakland Athletics on Monday.

He had felt discomfort before the game but it was thought he'd be fine.

First baseman Mauro Gomez was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to take Matsuzaka's spot.

In five starts this season, Dice-K had an 0-3 record with a 6.35 ERA.
