49ers Reward GM Baalke With A Three-Year Extension

NFL via Getty Images(SANTA CLARA, Calif.) -- After a 13-3 season including a trip to the NFC Championship Game, the San Francisco 49ers have decided to give general manager Trent Baalke a three-year contract extension that will run through the 2016 season.

After the team went just 6-10 in 2010, Baalke made numerous key moves that led to their recent run of success. He hired NFL Coach of the Year Jim Harbaugh, signed All-Pro kicker David Akers, signed cornerback Carlos Rodgers, brought in safety Donte Whitner, and re-signed safety Dashon Goldson.

"Trent has distinguished himself as the man to direct our football operations for years to come," 49ers CEO Jed York said. "Since taking over as general manager last January, we have made great strides on the football field under Trent's leadership."

Baalke has been a part of the 49ers organization since 2005.

Terrell Owens Wants Back on the 49ers

MONICA M. DAVEY/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The San Francisco 49ers recently placed wide receiver Braylon Edwards on waivers, ending his brief stint with the team. Since the team has an open spot for a wide receiver now, one of the greatest 49ers wide receivers of all time would like a reunion. No, not Jerry Rice -- Terrell Owens.

Owens spent his first eight seasons with the team, but his tenure ended rather tumultuously, to put it nicely. Even though its been nearly eight years since he put on a 49ers uniform, Owens wouldn't mind a putting on a 49ers uniform one more time.

"Let em kno if they need me, I'm ready homie!! I'm ready to take em deep!!" Owens said in a tweet directed towards 49ers safety Donte Whitner, who played with Owens in Buffalo.

Whitner responded to Owens, saying he would vouch that Owens was a great teammate in Buffalo. Owens has yet to play for anyone this season after suffering a torn ACL during the summer. The 38-year old seems to have no plans on retiring yet.
