Defending Champion Florida State Tops the Preseason Poll

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- For the first time since 1999, the Florida State Seminoles will begin the season number one in the  Associated Press preseason college football poll.

Florida State received 57 out of a possible 60 first-place votes. Alabama came in at No. 2, No.3 Oregon, No. 4 Oklahoma, and Ohio State came in at No. 5.

The defending national champions will be led by sophomore quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston. As a redshirt freshman Winston led the team to a 14-0 season capped off by their BCS championship over Auburn.

The Bowl Championship Series has now been replaced by a playoff system. A selection committee will pick the the top four teams in the country for two national semifinals.

Rounding out the top ten was Auburn at No. 6, UCLA at No. 7, Michigan State at No. 8, South Carolina at No. 9, and Baylor at No. 10.

Jameis Winston: I Must 'Live Up to the Hype'

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(GREENSBORO, N.C.) -- Defending national champion and Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston is ready for another season of proving to others that last year wasn't a fluke.

The Florida State quarterback spoke on Sunday at the ACC's preseason kickoff and said he's ready to show his doubters that he can have a repeat of last year's success.

"I know I have to live up to the hype," Winston said. "If I'm even an inch below that standard, it'll be chaos."

The 20-year-old will be a redshirt sophomore this season and could be a high first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, if he decides to leave after this season.

"It comes with the territory," Winston said. "You always have to have a smile on your face. Leadership isn't just on the field. It's off the field, too, and I know I have a lot of young guys looking up to me, and I know I have a lot of support from my teammates as well."

Winston isn't worried about the team having a target on their back either this season and understands that it will be a challenge repeating as national champion.

"We're not defending anything," Winston said. "We're trying to go get another championship. It's a clean slate."

Jameis Winston Reinstated to Florida State's Baseball Team

Thinkstock(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) --  Jameis Winston has been reinstated to Florida State's baseball team after being suspended following a shoplifting incident, head coach Mike Martin confirmed Sunday.

"Winston is reinstated, yes," Martin told The Orlando Sentinel. "He finished his community service and as soon as he did, we reinstated him."

The 20-year-old Winston was issued a civil citation and served 20 hours of community service.  The citation stemmed from an incident last Tuesday when he walked out of a Florida supermarket without paying for $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish.

After speaking with Florida State head football coach Jimbo Fisher, Martin decided to suspend the Heisman Trophy winner for the team's weekend series against Minnesota.

Winston leads the Seminoles with five saves.  On the gridiron, he guided the team to an undefeated season and a national championship in 2013.

Fla St. QB Jameis Winston Issued Civil Citation

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) -- Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was given a civil citation after sheriff’s deputies says he left a supermarket without paying for crab legs and crawfish worth $32.

According to Leon County Shefiff’s Office Maj. Michael Wood, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner ordered seafood at the deli counter of a Publix in the Tallahassee, Fla-area on Tuesday night. After receiving the food, he departed the store without paying.

Wood says deputies went to Winston’s apartment, where he acknowledged he did not pay for the food, because he forgot.

Winston will likely have to pay restitution to Publix for the cost of food as well as perform at least 20 hours of community service.

Jameis Winston Wants to Play Two More Years at Florida State

Grant Halverson/Getty Images(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) --  NFL teams eying Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston for the 2015 draft may have to wait another year.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher claimed earlier this year that the Heisman Trophy winner might play two more years of college football before going pro.  Winston echoed those statements on Thursday.

"Obviously, I'm not even worried about the draft and stuff like that," Winston said. "I'm worried about winning championships here at Florida State."

Winston would be eligible for the 2015 NFL draft if he chooses to leave school after next season.  He will be a redshirt sophomore in 2014.  Many draft experts believe he would have been a high first-round pick, possibly No. 1 overall if he were eligible for this year's draft in May.

The 20-year-old Winston is also a baseball player for Florida State.  He is expected to be the team's closer this season.

Florida State's Benjamin to Enter NFL Draft

Banana Stock/Getty Images(NEW YORK) --  Florida State wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin announed Friday that he will enter the 2014 draft.

Benjamin caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Jameis Winston with 13 seconds remaining in the Vizio National Championship, helping the Seminoles defeat Auburn 34-31.

The redshirt sophomore caught 54 passes for 1,011 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Seminoles.  He developed into a dominant receiver after showing flashes of inconsistency earlier in the year.

The 6-foot-5, 234 pound Benjamin could emerge as a deep threat in the NFL because of his size and athleticism.

He emerged as a dominant force late in the season after periods of inconsistency and had two touchdown receptions in the ACC title game.
