Florida State Agrees to Five-Year Extension with Jimbo Fisher

Football Texture/iStockPhoto(NEW YORK) -- Sorry Texas fans, Jimbo Fisher likely isn't heading anywhere for a while. Fisher and Florida State have agreed upon a five-year contract extension.

Fisher's new deal will keep him under contract through the 2018 season, and ESPN is reporting that the deal is worth $21 million.

Since taking over for longtime head coach Bobby Bowden, Fisher has gone 45-10 during his four years at Florida State. He has also help guide the team to face Auburn in the Vizio National Championship game against Auburn on Monday.

"We are extremely pleased with the direction of our program and belive that this new contract will ensure that Coach Fisher is in place to lead the Seminoles for a long time to come," Florida said athletic director Stan Wilcox said in a statement released by the school.

It had been reported that the University of Texas would be pursuing Fisher to take over for the recently departed Mack Brown as the school's head football coach.

The redshirt freshman signal-caller was named the Associated Press national player of the year on Tuesday after leading the Seminoles to a 12-0 record in the regular season.

Winston is also this year's Heisman Trophy winner, the Walter Camp national player of the year, the Davey O'Brien quarterback of the year and the ACC player of the year.

He received 49 out of 56 votes cast by AP Top 25 college football poll voters, becoming the first player from Florida State to win the award.

He will have the chance to add a national championship to his resume when Florida State takes on Auburn for all the marbles January 6.

Jameis Winston Wins Heisman Trophy

Kelly Kline/Heisman Trophy Trust via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston won the Heisman Trophy Saturday night in New York.

"I don't even now what's going on right now," Winston said to ESPN shortly after winning the award. "Honestly, I'm just so happy...So overwhelmed by this thing man. I don't even have anything to say. This is the first time I've been speechless in a longtime."

Winston, 19,  becomes the youngest Heisman winner ever. He also is just the second freshman to win the award -- Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel did it last season.

Winston set freshman records in passing yards (3,820) and touchdown passes (38), while helping lead the Seminoles to a berth in the BCS National Championship game versus Auburn.

Winston destroyed the competition in the voting, earning 2,205 points. Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron came in second with 704 points.

Jameis Winston Tied to Sexual Assault Case

Banana Stock(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) -- Florida State quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Jameis Winston is part of an ongoing sexual assault investigation dating back to Dec. 2012.

The Tallahassee Police Department says the complaint was filed last December, but Winston's attorney, Tim Jansen, said police contacted him in February 2013. Still, no charges were filed and Winston has never been interviewed by police.

"It was closed in February and it was then handed over to the state attorney today," Jansen said Wednesday. "We've been cooperating with them and we've supplied them with witness affidavits. We hope this case will be resolved quickly in Mr. Winston's favor."

Florida State issued a statement saying they were well informed of the matter and confirmed Winston will start on Saturday against Syracuse.

"We are aware of a matter that was investigated by the Tallahassee Police Department almost a year ago," the school said in a statement. "Because the investigation has not been closed by TPD, we cannot comment further at this time. We look forward to a speedy resolution of the issue. There is no change in Jameis Winston's status."
