Rangers Stave Off Elimination, Beat Bruins in OT

Barry Chin/The Boston Globe via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Chris Kreider scored 7:03 into overtime Thursday night, to give the New York Rangers a 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series.

The Bruins now lead the series 3-1.

The B's took a 2-0 lead in the second period on rookie Torey Krug's third goal of the series, but just 58 seconds later, Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask fell and Carl Hagelin slowly pushed a puck past the fallen goaltender to make it 2-1.

Derek Stepan tied the game just 1:15 into the third period. Stepan was behind the Bruins' net when he forced a turnover on Zdeno Chara and smacked one past Rask.

Bruin winger Tyler Seguin scored his first goal of the playoffs at the 11:54 mark, but Brian Boyle scored on the power play just 1:54 later, the last goal of the period.

Before the victory, the Rangers had been 0-3 in overtime games this postseason.

Game 5 is Saturday in Boston. The puck is set to drop at 5:30 p.m. Eastern.

Bruins Score Two in Third to Top Rangers in Game 3

Barry Chin/The Boston Globe via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist played a great game, but in the end it wasn't enough as the Boston Bruins topped the New York Rangers 2-1 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Tuesday night.

The Bruins now have a 3-0 series lead.

In a game where the Bruins outshot the Rangers 34 to 24, the Rangers actually had a 1-0 lead heading into the third period.

Then 3:10 into the third period, Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk scored his fourth goal of the playoffs to tie the game 1-1.

The score stayed that way until there was 3:31 left in the game. A puck deflected off Lundqvist's mask falling straight down onto the goal line. Lundqvist couldn't find the puck but Bruins forward Daniel Paille did as he knocked it into the net scoring the eventual game winner.

"I think it's all about traffic," Bruins center Patrice Bergeron said on how the B's scored on Lundqvist Tuesday night. "I think in the first two games we did a good job of that. If you don't see it, it's going to be tough to, obviously, stop it. We know he's a great goalie and when he sees the shot, he's going to make the stop. It's about having some better screens and I think we did that in the third and made it a little harder on them."

The Bruins will look to close out the series at Madison Square Garden Thursday night. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. Eastern.

The trio of Dougie Hamilton, Torey Krug and Matt Bartkowski combined for four points en-route to a 5-2 Boston victory over the New York Rangers, in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Sunday.

Hamilton, Krug and Bartkowski (who are all rookies) are playing in place of the injured Dennis Seidenberg, Andrew Ferrence and Wayne Redden.

Krug started the scoring for the Bruins scoring 5:28 into the first period, his second goal in two games, but Rangers' captain Ryan Callahan tied it up 2:33 later.

The B's and Blueshirts traded goals in the second before Johnny Boychuck slapped one past Henrik Lundqvist 12:08 into the period to give the Bruins the lead for good.

Milan Lucic and Brad Marchand tacked on goals in the third to make it 5-2.

Tuesday the series shifts to New York, where the Rangers have yet to lose this postseason. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30 P.M. Eastern.

Rangers Rip Capitals to Advance to Second Round of Playoffs

Toni L. Sandys/The Washington Post(WASHINGTON) -- Henrik Lundqvist made 35 saves en route to his second straight shutout, as the sixth-seeded New York Rangers defeat the No. 3 seed Washington Capitals in Game 7 of their first-round playoff series Monday, 5-0.

"He was really good (Lundqvist), but the team was also good, too," Rangers head coach John Tortorella said. "I have to give the team some credit. They played hard in front of him."

That good play included a good amount of scoring. Rangers defenseman Arron Asham was first. He found the back of the net in the first period, his second goal of the series.

Taylor Pyatt and Michael Del Zotto scored 2:10 apart in the second period to make it 3-0. Ryan Callahan and Mats Zuccarello scored the other two goals for the Rangers in the third period.

Capitals star winger Alex Ovechkin had only one shot in the loss. Ovechkin finishes the series with just two points.

This was the first game of the series the road team won, and the first time in Rangers' history that a Game 7 was won on the road.
The win advances the Rangers to the second round of the playoffs, where they'll take on the No. 4 seeded Boston Bruins.

Rangers Defend Home Ice, Force Game 7

Paul Bereswill/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Henrik Lundqvist saved all 27 shots the Washington Capitals pelted at him, leading the New York Rangers to a 1-0 victory in Game 6 of their playoff series Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

The win forces a winner-take-all Game 7 in the first-round, Eastern Conference playoff series.

Derick Brassard scored the lone goal 9:39 into the second period, when he slapped a shot just inside the blue line that nipped a Washington player and snuck by Caps goalie Braden Holtby.

Lundqvist and the Rangers' defense did the rest of the work from there to preserve the victory.

"Especially late in the game, he made some great saves," Rangers head coach John Tortorella said of Lundqvist. "The ultimate goal for Hank in his mind is to win the Stanley Cup, but you need to go through these types of situations to get there."

The home team has now won every game in this series.

Game 7 is Monday night in Washington. The puck is scheduled to drop at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.

Rangers Nip Islanders, 1-0 In Overtime

Scott Levy/NHLI via Getty Images(UNIONDALE, N.Y.) --  Dan Girardi scored with 1:49 left in overtime to give the New York Rangers a thrilling 1-0 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday night at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Ranger goalie Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots for his first shutout victory of the season.

Both Lundqvist and Evgeni Nabokov were lights-out in regulation in a game that seemed destined to end in a shootout.  Girardi was finally able to flip a shot past Nabakov off a rush for the win.

"That was a long skate, but it was well worth it," Lundqvist said. "They played hard. It was an exciting game to play in. It was fun, a lot of fun. Like a playoff game for sure."

The win kept the Rangers (21-16-4, 46 pts) eighth in the Eastern Conference standings.  The Islanders (21-16-5, 47 pts) remain one point ahead. The ninth-place Winnipeg Jets are two points behind the Rangers with seven games remaining.

The game was scoreless until the third period when Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi scored his second goal of the series.

"Richy (Brad Richards) won the draw in the middle," Girardi said explaining his mindset leading up to his goal. "I just came down...I just wanted to shoot as hard as I can to the blocker side...Maybe get a rebound... I just got lucky it went in."

Rangers Shutout Devils 3-0, Take Game 1

Bruce Bennett/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 21 saves, as the Rangers shutout the New Jersey Devils 3-0 taking Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

The game was scoreless until the third when Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi got one past Devils goalie Martin Brodeur.

The Rangers then received goals from rookie Chris Kreider and center Artem Anisimov.

Despite the outcome of Game 1, Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvsit believes New York is in for a tough series.

"I think it's going to be a tight series. Just a big battle out there," Lundqvist said. "I thought we made a couple big plays when it was a one nothing game. They had a few chances to tie it up, they didn't, instead we scored the second one and that was the big one. I expect it to be just a big war out there for I don't know how many games, but I look forward to it."

Rangers Dismiss the Senators 2-1, Advance to Round Two

Bruce Bennett/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- It was all about defense and goaltending for the New York Rangers. Rangers' defensemen Dan Girardi and Marc Staal scored both Rangers goals, and goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves, including stopping an onslaught of shots during the final five minutes of the game, as the Rangers held off the Ottawa Senators 2-1, and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

"That was a hard series against a very good team," Rangers head coach John Tortorella said. "I thought both teams went toe-to-toe in all areas of the game. Sometimes the first round is the hardest round. And that's all this is, it's one round. We found a way, we're fortunate, I'm very happy with the group and they should be proud of themselves."

The Rangers are now a perfect four for four in playoff series games at home.

The Blue Shirts will get a day of rest before starting their second round matchup with the Washington Captials Saturday.
