Brewers Place Segura on DL

Mike McGinnis/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Milwaukee Brewers placed shortstop Jean Segura on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right pinky.

The move is retroactive to May 13.

Despite the break, Segura still wanted to play wearing a padded cover over the finger.

"I tell them, 'Give me some days to see how it feels.' ... But I trust the decision that they made, because it's a fracture and if you get something again, it's going to be losing two or more months [as opposed to] maybe 15 days or three weeks," Segura said.  "I don't know. I just feel disappointed. I love this game so much. I don't think anybody cares as much for this game as I do. I do the best I can no matter what, and I'm always ready to play this game and help my team win some ballgames. I just want to be out there and I want to be healthy."

The 25-year-old Segura is hitting .262 with two home runs, 12 RBIs, six stolen bases, and a .306 on-base percentage this season.

The Brewers called up infielder Luis Sardinas from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Brewers SS Segura Questionable for Season Opener

Mike McGinnis/Getty Images(PHOENIX) -- Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Jean Segura status is questionable for the team's season opener Monday against Atlanta due to soreness behind his throwing shoulder.

Segura has been sidelined since March 18 due to the injury. He has been able to swing the bat but has been unable to play in the field.

The 24-year-old had an MRI on the shoulder which came back negative.

Still, the Brewers are being cautious with their All-Star shortstop.

"We're day to day. As long as it's still there, Dr. Raasch and the medical staff don't want him in there," Brewers skipper Ron Roenicke said. "I'm not going to say it's not [a DL situation]. They checked it and it's nothing with the rotator cuff or the labrum. There's a muscle in there that he strained. When you strain something, sometimes they go away in a couple of days and sometimes it's a week."

Segura hit .294 with 12 home runs, 74 runs scored, 49 RBIs and 44 stolen bases last season, his first full year in the big leagues.
