With the victory, the Kings cut the Blues' series lead, 2-1.

The game was scoreless until 4:56 into the second period when Kings defenseman Slava Voynov put the puck past Blues goaltender Brian Elliott for the goal. Alec Martinez and Trevor Lewis were credited with the assist for Los Angeles.

Kings Raise Stanley Cup Banner, Lose Season Opener

Harry How/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) --  After a three month delay thanks to the NHL lockout, the Los Angeles Kings finally raised their first Stanley Cup championship banner before their season-opening game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The problem is the Kings forgot they had a game to play after the ceremony, which celebrated their improbable run in last year's playoffs where they became the first eighth-seeded team in NHL history to win the Cup.

The Blackhawks knocked off the Stanley Cup champs 5-2 behind two goals and an assist from Marian Hossa.

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each added a goal and an assist each for the Blackhawks (1-0-0), who jumped out to a 3-0 lead 15 minutes in and never looked back.  Corey Crawford stopped 19 shots.

Rob Scuderi and Jordan Nolan scored goals in the loss for the Kings (0-1-0), while Jonathan Quick had 17 saves.

The Kings returned every single player from their playoff roster last season, which is a rare feat in professional sports.

Jeff Gross/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- The defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms with goaltender Jonathan Quick on a ten-year contract extension, the team said.

Quick won't be able to sign the deal until Sunday, due to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The contract will keep him in Southern California through the 2022-23 season.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The 26-year-old Quick was lights out for L.A. during the postseason, finishing 16-4 with a 1.41 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage.

The Kings took the Connecticut native with the 72nd overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Quick Wins the Conn Smythe

Dave Sandford/NHLI via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- The Stanley Cup wasn't the only award handed out Monday night. Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick won the Conn Smythe award, which is chosen by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association, and is given to the player deemed most valuable to his team during the playoffs.

Quick finished the playoffs with a 1.41 goals-against average, .946 saves percentage and three shutouts.

In the final series against the Devils, Quick stopped 125 of 132 shots.

"To be honored with this trophy it's something I never expected." Quick told NBC Sports Network. "It's great...It's a good feeling."

The 26-year-old Quick joins Brian Leetch and last years winner Tim Thomas, as the only Americans to win the award.

Kings One Game Away From First Stanley Cup Title

Andrew D. Bernstein/NHLI via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- The Los Angeles Kings are one game away from the franchises first Stanley Cup title. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick made 22 saves, and the Kings received goals from four different players, as the Kings defeated the New Jersey Devils, 4-0, giving them a 3-0 series lead.

Much of the Kings success has to be attributed to the defense and goaltender Jonathan Quick. The Devils have now scored a total of two goals in the series.

"You have to give their goalie and their team some credit," Devils coach Peter DeBoer said. "He's made some saves...We've put up the same number of chances against Philly or the Rangers and we were getting some goals. We're not this series. That's a credit to them. It's not our guys aren't trying or they're not doing enough. Their (the Kings) shutting the door."

The Kings have now held three nothing series leads in each round of the playoffs. If Los Angeles were to win Game 4, it would be the first team since Detroit in 1998, to win the Cup with a sweep.

Game 4 is Wednesday night in Los Angeles. The puck drops at approximately 8 PM ET.

Kings Outlast Devils in Game 1 of Stanley Cup Finals

Jeff Gross/Getty Images(NEWARK, N.J.) -- The Los Angles Kings just don't lose on the road. For the ninth straight time this postseason, the Kings came up victorious on the road, this time beating the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in overtime of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Kings center Anze Kopitar scored 8:13 into the overtime for the win.

"I wanted to make sure I went through the middle," Kopitar said when describing the winning goal. "I don't know if he heard me or not (teammate Justin Williams). I yelled for the puck and he chipped it, obviously perfect, right on my tape. It happened pretty quick, and I was able to finish it off."

Despite now trailing 1-0 in the best-of-seven series, Devils coach Peter DeBoer is thinking positive.

"The good news is we started in the same hole against Philly, we started in the same hole against the Rangers and we responded to the situation in the right way the last two rounds...and I expect the same," DeBoer said.

Game 2 is Saturday night in New Jersey.

Kings Shutout Coyotes, 4-0, Head Home Up 2-0

Andrew D. Bernstein/NHLI via Getty Images(GLENDALE, Ariz.) --The Los Angeles Kings are rolling through the 2012 NHL Playoffs.

Los Angeles took a commanding 2-0 series lead on Tuesday night after they beat the Phoenix Coyotes 4-0 and will head home to try and close out the series at the Staples Center.

Kings center Jeff Carter recorded a natural hat-trick in the third period on the power play and sent the Coyotes fans home wondering if they'll even see their team play again at home in 2012.

"It's a mindset; we get away, there's no distractions," Carter said. "For some reason, this team likes to play on the road."

Kings coach Darryl Sutter said his team played better in game 1 but still was able to find a way in game 2 to pull out another road win.

"I think we held our own early and we didn't want to get into penalty trouble," said Sutter.  "I didn't think tonight we were especially great, I thought we were better the first game than we were tonight."

Kings goalie Jonathan Quick had 24 saves in the game 2 victory.

Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals will be on Thursday night.

Kings Conquer Coyotes 4-2, Take Early Series Lead

Jeff Gross/Getty Images(GLENDALE, Ariz.) -- Los Angeles Kings winger Dwight King scored twice and goalie Jonathan Quick made 25 saves as the Kings took Game 1 of the Western Conference finals over the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-2.

"He's a strong guy," Kings center Jarret Stoll said of King. "Very smart too. He thinks the game well. With me, him and (Trevor) Lewis, we’re on the same page defensively, trying to turn over pucks. He protects the puck so well. He can find the puck and score well. He did it in junior. A lot of people have done it in junior. You come up here, he’s contributed down the stretch in the playoffs. It’s not easy for a young guy coming in to be put in a role like that, be playing an empty-netter in the Western Conference Finals and he’s on the ice. So he’s a big part of our team.”

The Kings headed into the third tied at two, but 2:11 into the period Kings captain Dustin Brown scored and gave them the lead for good.

Game 2 is Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET in Glendale, Arizona.

Kings Complete Sweep, Beat Blues 3-1

Rich Lam/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- The Los Angeles Kings became the first team to punch their ticket into the Western Conference Finals on Sunday, they cruised past the St. Louis Blues 3-1, and took the series 4-0, advancing to their first finals appearance in 19 years.

Dustin Brown, who has been solid throughout the playoffs, scored two goals in the sweep of St. Louis on Sunday.  Jonathan Quick made 23 saves as his team became the first No. 8 seed in NHL history to eliminate their conference's top two seeds in the same postseason.

"I can only imagine how happy Kings fans are right now," said Brown. "They've been through a rough stretch, and to win on home ice, that's huge for everyone in this room. It's nice to see the fans get jacked up as much as they could. They haven't had an opportunity to celebrate like that at home."

The Kings will now await the winner of the Coyotes/Predators series.

Kings Blast Blues 5-2, Take 2-0 Series Lead

Dilip Vishwanat/Getty Images(SAINT LOUIS) -- The Los Angeles Kings may be the eight seed in the West, but they sure haven't looked like it so far. After knocking off the top seeded Vancouver Canucks in the First Round, the Kings now have a 2-0 series advantage over the second seeded Blues, after their 5-2 victory Monday night.

The Kings scored four goals in the first period, including two from center Anze Kopitar. Kopitar has now scored five straight playoff games.

"We didn't let off the gas at all," Kings captain Dustin Brown said.

Jeff Carter Justin Williams and Mike Richards also scored for the Kings.

The 0-2 series hole doesn't bode well for the Blues. Throughout their history, the team is 1-16 when facing a 2-0 series deficit.

The puck drops for Game 3 at 10:00PM ET, in Los Angeles.
