Top Basketball Prospect Andrew Wiggins Selects Kansas

Mitchell Layton/Getty Images (NEW YORK) --  Andrew Wiggins is a Kansas Jayhawk

The top basketball prospect in the nation signed a national letter of intent with Kansas Tuesday afternoon in Huntington, West Virginia.

"I'm looking forward to getting there and just doing my thing," Wiggins said.

The 6-foot-7 small forward was also considering Florida State, Kentucky, and North Carolina.

Wiggins averaged 23.6 points, 11.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists for Huntingon Prep last season after growing up in Toronto.  He was named the Naismith High School player of the year.

Kansas head basketball coach Bill Self is thrilled to have Wiggins on board.

"Andrew did this the exact way he said he was going to," Self said in a news release. "He played his cards very close to his vest as did his mother and father. I knew we were one of four. The competition was very stiff and we were fortunate that we were able to ink him today. He's a tremendous talent and a terrific kid."

(9) Kansas Avenges Loss to TCU

Ed Zurga/Getty Images(LAWERENCE, Kan.) -- Kansas wasn't going to let it happen twice.

The No. 9 Jayhawks destroyed TCU 74-48 Saturday, as Kansas avenged their 62-55 loss to TCU earlier this month.

Kansas (23-4) scored only 13 points in the first half of their last meeting with TCU. The Jayhawks returned the favor by holding the Horned Frogs to nine first half points.

Jeff Withey led the Jayhawks with 18 points and chipped in six rebounds in the win.

"We knew we had to attack them," Withey said. "The first game we only scored two points in the first ten minutes so we knew we had to just attack. We ran our offense really well."

TCU (10-17) outscored Kansas in the second half 39-36, but it wasn't enough.

Devonta Abron led the Horned Frogs with 18 points.

(14) Kansas Stomps (10) Kansas State to End Slide

Jamie Squire/Getty Images(LAWRENCE, Kan.) -- Kansas finally got back to their winning ways on Monday.

No. 14 Kansas used 30 points from freshman Ben McLemore to stop a three game losing streak by defeating 10th-ranked Kansas State, 83-62.

Kansas (20-4) was on its first three game skid since 2005, but got a needed win over their in-state rival.

"What we were going through is what 99 percent of teams in America go through," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "There's only one percent that doesn't go through this kind of stretch. And we're spoiled because it's been a long time since we went through one of these stretches."

Jeff Withey added five blocks to set the all-time school record.

Kansas State (19-5) fell into a tie for first in the Big 12 conference, and were out-rebounded 39-20.

Oklahoma Sends (5) Kansas to Its Third Straight Loss

(NORMAN, Okla.) -- It keeps getting worse for Kansas.

Oklahoma forward Romero Osby scored a game high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Oklahoma upset fifth-ranked Kansas 72-66, handing the Jayhawks their third-straight loss.

Oklahoma (15-7, 6-4 Big 12) snapped its 10-game losing streak to the Jayhawks.

Kansas (19-4, 7-3 Big 12) had won 18 in a row before losing its last three. The last time Kansas lost three straight was February 2005.

Still, Kansas head coach Bill Self wasn't nearly as upset as he was after losing to TCU last Wednesday.

"I'm not leaving out of here disquested with my team at all," Self said when comparing the loss to the Jayhawks' loss to TCU." We actually played better today. We played a good team today and they shot the heck out of the basketball."

Freshman guard Ben McLemore led Kansas with 15 points.

No. 2 Kansas Tops West Virginia for 18th Straight Win

Justin K. Aller/Getty Images(MORGANTOWN, W.Va) -- Second-ranked Kansas defeated West Virginia 61-56 on Monday for their 18th straight win.

The streak is the longest in the nation this season, but the team isn't worried about it. "None of us are paying any attention to it," Kansas guard Travis Releford said. "We don't sit around in the locker room and talk about it because we know it's a long season. So we're not too worried about it."

The Jayhawks (19-1) blew an early 15-point lead but recovered late to stop the Mountaineers.

"The second half we just kind of pieced it together," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "Our defense needed to be good because we didn't score, either. I thought defensively we did a pretty good job."

Jeff Withey scored 15 points for Kansas, who had 16 turnovers despite shooting over 50 percent from the field.

West Virginia (9-11) had only four baskets over the game's final 10 minutese.

Kansas Holds Off Oklahoma

G Fiume/Maryland Terrapins/Getty Images(LAWRENCE, Kan.) -- The Kansas Jayhawks are making a case to be number one.

The third-ranked Jayhawks won their 17th straight game by defeating Oklahoma 67-54 on Saturday afternoon.

The winning streak is the longest in the nation.

The Jayhawks (18-1) were led by freshman Ben McLemore who had 18 points, while center Jeff Withey had 13 points and nine rebounds.

"He was terrific. Jeff played great," Kansas coach Bill Self said of Withey. "The mistakes we made in the first half, he erased a lot of them, which led to points. We didn't do much offensively at all, but we got easy baskets off his defense when we got out and ran."

The Sooners (13-5) continued to struggle against Kansas, losing their 10th consecutive game in the series going back to 2006. They shot only 35 percent from the floor.

With the win, the Jayhawks also extended their fourth-longest home winning streak to 33 games in a row.
