Jerry Markland/Getty Images(KANSAS) --  Matt Kenseth executed down the final stretch and found himself in victory lane on Sunday.

"When it was in front, we knew it was really fast," Kenseth said after his second straight win at the track. "And if we could get out there first, we'd be tough to beat."

Points leader Jimmie Johnson, Martin Truex Jr., and Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five.

"Matt's good. He always has been," Johnson said. "He impresses me in his ability to lead the team, make adjustments on the car, and his knowledge of the car, but most importantly, inside the car, and finding a little bit more. The guy can do it."

Jimmie Johnson Wins At Martinsville

Sean Gardner/Getty Images(MARTINSVILLE, Va) -- Jimmie Johnson sure loves racing at Martinsville Speedway.

Johnson led a career-best 346 laps and pulled away on a restart with eight laps to go for his eighth-career victory at the track.

"We stuck to our game plan and knew what we wanted to have in the race and stayed patient, and it was tough to do at times, but it certainly worked out well," Johnson said. "And in the race, we had to adjust on the fly."

Clint Boyer finished second, while Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, and Kyle Busch rounded out the top five.

Johnson picked the inside line for the final restart with Bowyer on the outside, Gordon behind him and Busch to his outside, and Johnson was able to get a clean break for the lead into Turn 1, his top priority to build some separation for the finish.

"I felt like if I could get two or three corners and maintain the lead on Clint, I could stretch it back out again," he said.

The victory made team owner Rick Hendrick's organization the winningest team in Martinsville history with 20.

Matt Kenseth Wins Kobalt Tools 400

Todd Warshaw/Getty Images(LAS VEGAS) --  Matt Kenseth gave himself the ultimate 41st birthday present, a Sprint Cup Series victory.

Kenseth narrowly beat out Kasey Kahne to win the Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon.  Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, and Carl Edwards rounded out the top five.

It was Kenseth's 25th career victory, but first as a member of the Joe Gibbs Racing team.  He joined JGR this season after leaving Roush Fenway Racing in the offseason.

Kenseth was able to take the lead from Kahne after the final restart.  Holding him off during the final laps was the tough part.

"I was real nervous all day," Kenseth said. "(Kahne) had the best car. I told Jason Ratcliff with about 12 to go that I was sorry we were going to lose. We were just too tight.  We didn't have the fastest car there, but we had it where we needed it to be."

He became just the third NASCAR driver to win a race on his birthday.

Jimmie Johnson Wins at Martinsville, Takes over Points Lead

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(MARTINSVILLE, Va.) -- The five-time Sprint Cup champion is back atop the points lead after the big win at Martinsville on Sunday.  Jimmie Johnson took home the checkered flag for the 59th career time after he beat Kyle Busch to the finish line at Martinsville Speedway.

This was Johnson's seventh career victory at Martinsville.

"I'm ecstatic about the win today and ecstatic about the points lead, but this is no cake-walk," Johnson said.  "These guys are bringing their best each and every week. ... The next two races will tell the tale. Anything can happen. We could both wad it up next week and Clint Bowyer is your champion."

Brad Keselowski came into the race as the points leader but started 32nd and finished in sixth to leave only two points away from Johnson.

"You can't count this team out," said Keselowski.  "I know this championship's going to come down to Homestead, you just got to be in position where you've got a shot at it."

Busch was followed by Kasey Kahne, Aric Amirola, and Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five.  Bowyer sits in third in the points after his finish.

"It was a good day for us," said Bowyer.

The Sprint Cup series will head to Texas Motor Speedway on Nov. 4 with just three races remaining in the chase for the championship.

Kansas Speedway Sprint Cup Preview

Jamie Squire/Getty Images for NASCAR(KANSAS CITY, Kan.) -- NASCAR heads to Kansas Speedway this weekend in the sixth stop in the race for the Sprint Cup Championship.

Points leader Brad Keselowski finished eleventh last week at Charlotte and is ahead of Jimmie Johnson by seven points entering Sunday.

"Every week is just another opportunity to get ourselves that much closer to having a real shot at the championship," Keselowski said.  "We've had a great start and we need to keep it going, and I feel confident we can do that especially here at Kansas."

Denny Hamlin, who is third in points, 15 behind Keselowski, crashed while testing his car on Thursday, but will be ready to go come Sunday.

"Obviously the severity of it, and the speeds we were running, it was a wise thing to do anyway," Hamlin said of his dizziness after the crash. "Just bell-rung, typical hard hit, ring-your-bell kind of thing. You get jarred around, you feel a little out of it at first. Everything came back OK."

Clint Bowyer won last weekend's race at Charlotte, and is hoping to continue the momentum at his home track.

"Coming off of the win, obviously rolling into your hometown is a lot of fun," said Bowyer, who is fourth in the standings.

Kasey Kahne rounds out the top five in points standings.
