ESPN: Wide Receiver Lance Moore Requests Release

Pittsburgh Steelers/NFL(NEW YORK) -- Unhappy with his playing time, ESPN reports that wide receiver Lance Moore has requested release his team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"It didn't go the way I'd hoped it would go, but that's life in the NFL sometimes," Moore said Jan. 5 after the Steelers were eliminated in an AFC wild-card game. "It's unfortunate that it unfolded the way that it did, but I enjoyed my time here this season.

"I just want to play...whether that's here or somewhere else," he continued. "I'd love to be here, I'd love to be a part of this offense, but I think those are decisions that have to be made down the line."

Last March, Moore signed a two-year deal with the Steelers worth $3 million. The Steelers will only have to pay $322,500 towards their cap if he is indeed granted his release.

Just two seasons ago, the 31-year-old Moore had 1,041 yards for the New Orleans Saints. In 2014, Moore caught just 14 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns.

Steelers RB's Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount Await Punishment

Pittsburgh Steelers/NFL(PITTSBURGH) -- Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is not worried about being without both his running backs come the season opener against the Cleveland Browns.

"Everything's on the table," Tomlin said regarding punishment coming to running backs, LeGarrett Blount and Le'Veon Bell.

The two were charged with marijuana possession and driving under the influence during their trip to play the Philadelphia Eagles last week and both could be suspended at the start of the regular season.

Veteran wide receiver Lance Moore defended his teammates.

"We don't spend a lot of time talking about what happens off the field. Obviously what's going to those guys is going to happen to those guys, and nothing we can do or say here is going to change that," he said. "We're not going to disown them or treat them differently. Obviously it's a situation that we would like to have not have happened, something that maybe could have been avoided. They made a decision, [but] once we walk through these doors, it's all work."

Saints Cut Ties with WR Lance Moore

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(NEW YORK) --  Add Lance Moore's name to the growing list of free agent wide receivers.

The New Orleans Saints have released the veteran receiver in a cost-cutting move.  Moore, 30, was due to make $3.8 million in salary and bonuses in 2014, including a $500,000 roster bonus due this month.

By releasing him, the Saints will save at least $2.5 million against this year's salary cap.  Moore has two years remaining on his current contract.

Moore has been with the Saints longer than any other player on the roster.  After joining the practice squad in 2005, he worked his way into the team's record books.  Moore ranks among the top five receivers in Saints history in receptions (346) and touchdown catches (38) to go along with 4,281 yards.

He had his first 1,000-yard season in 2012, but struggled last season.  He missed three weeks with a hand injury and fell behind rookie Kenny Stills on the depth chart.  Moore finished the regular season with 37 catches for 457 yards and two touchdowns.
