Team USA Buries Argentina, Advance To Gold Medal Game

TIMOTHY A. CLARY/AFP/GettyImages(LONDON) – The U.S. Men’s Basketball team is one step closer to gold.

Team USA continued its quest for their second straight gold medal in the London Olympics Friday night by beating Argentina 109-83.

It will be a rematch of the 2008 gold medal game on Sunday when Americans take on Spain, who beat Russia earlier in the day 67-59.

LeBron James once again led the way for Team USA, scoring 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and assists.

Argentina kept the score close and even lead by four early in the third quarter. Then American forward Kevin Durant hit two threes during an 8-0 run and teamed up with James to run away from Argentina.

The U.S. had another prolific day from beyond the arc, hitting 18 three-pointers while shooting 53 percent overall.

Kevin Durant had five threes, while Carmelo Anthony had four threes of his own.

Manu Ginobli had 18 points to pace the Argentines, while Luis Scola and Carlos Delfino each chipped in 15 points.

Serena Williams Wants to Compete at 2016 Olympic Games

LUIS ACOSTA/AFP/GettyImages(LONDON) -- Even with a career Golden Slam, Serena Williams is hungry for more.  After defeating Maria Sharapova for the gold medal on Saturday, Williams plans on defending that title in 2016 at the Rio de Janeiro games.

"I plan on being there unless an act of God doesn't allow me to," the fourth-ranked Williams said Monday on ABC's Good Morning America.

Williams and her sister Venus picked up double's gold on Sunday to complete the London Games sweep and still feels she can compete at the highest level, even at the age of 30. Twenty-seven-year-old Michael Phelps, the 18-time gold medalist, has said that these London Games would be the last of his competition career.

"When I feel I can't be the greatest I shouldn't play anymore, but I feel I belong. I'm not tired. I'm enjoying myself," said Williams.

Williams joined Steffi Graff as the only other Women's player to complete a golden slam and will compete in the U.S. Open later this month.

Bolt Wins Gold, Sets Olympic Record

Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images(LONDON) -- Usain Bolt accelerated to the finish, and propelled himself into the record books yet again.

Bolt captured the gold medal in the men’s 100m dash at the London Olympics and set an Olympic record in the process.

The Jamaican sprinter grabbed his second straight Olympic medal in the event by clocking a 9.63, the second fastest time in history. He is just the second man to have back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the event.

Bolt did not get off to a great start, but made up for it over the final 50m.

"I executed, and that's the key," Bolt said. "I stopped worrying about the start. The end is what's important."

Bolt bested Jamaican teammate and training partner Yohan Blake, who finished with the silver. American Justin Gatlin finished in third with a personal-best 9.79.

After the race, Bolt took a victory lap that including a kiss of the track and a somersault. He will try to defend his title in the 200m on Tuesday.

Murray Gets Revenge, Wins Gold in London

Clive Brunskill/Getty Images(WIMBLEDON) -- Andy Murray finally won a match against his longtime nemesis and took home gold in the process.

Murray defeated Roger Federer of Switzerland in the Olympic Men’s Tennis Final on Sunday at Wimbeldon in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 to bring home the gold for his native Great Britain.

The victory came four weeks after Murray was trounced by Federer on Centre Court in the Wimbledon Final. The Scotsman won the first set of that final before dropping the final three.

"I've had a lot of tough losses in my career," he said. "This is the best way to come back from the Wimbledon final. I'll never forget it."

Murray has still not won a Grand Slam tournament, but the hometown crowd at the All England Club was behind Murray from the start.

Murray dominated throughout, winning nine straight games at one point and breaking Federer’s serve four times.

It marks the first time Murray has bested Federer in a final, having lost to him in three Grand Slam Finals.

Federer was looking to complete the career Golden Slam by winning his first Olympic singles final, but had to settle for silver.
