Zack Greinke To Begin Minor League Rehab

Denis Poroy/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Zack Greinke is ahead of schedule.

The Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment in Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday. He is recovering from a broken left collarbone suffered on April 11 when San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin charged the mound at Greinke after being hit by a pitch.

Greinke is about three weeks ahead of the original estimate that he would be out eight weeks after the injury. He has thrown two 60-pitch bullpen sessions and has been clocked at 90 mph.

"He really hasn't lost much time," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "We feel like his arm strength is back."

Greinke made two starts before the injury, going 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA.

Dodgers Place SS Hanley Ramirez On The 15-day Disabled List

Ron Vesely/MLB Photos via Getty Images(SAN FRANCISCO) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers placed shortstop Hanley Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday due to a strained left hamstring. The three-time All-Star suffered the injury while running the bases during the sixth inning of Friday night’s loss to the San Francisco Giants.

The 29-year-old Ramirez began the year on the disabled list after he injured his thumb during the World Baseball Classic. He was activated this past Monday and went 5 for 11 with a home run and an RBI in four games.

To fill Ramirez’s spot on the roster, Los Angeles called up infielder Dee Gordon from Triple-A Albuquerque. In 25 games with the Isotopes, he batted .314 with 19 runs, 12 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

Dodgers' Hanley Ramirez Injures Hamstring, Likely Out Indefinitely

Dilip Vishwanat/Getty Images(SAN FRANCISCO) -- Just as the Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed back shortstop Hanley Ramirez, it looks like he'll be out of action again for the foreseeable future after he injured his left hamstring Friday night.

In the top of the sixth inning against the San Francisco Giants, Ramirez had to helped off the field as he grabbed the back of his left leg after getting thrown out sliding into third base.

This is a big blow to the Dodgers, who were relying on a healthy Ramirez to help pick up some of the slack on offense. He started the season on the disabled list, and returned to the lineup less than a week ago.

"It sounds like he got it pretty good," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "It's usually a pretty good amount of time. It's not like he's going to be back in a couple days."

The Dodgers have under performed this season due to a variety of injuries among other issues. Mattingly knows the team needs to start wining soon.

"We can't keep losing guys at this rate," he added. "This is going to end. Right now it doesn't look very good. ...I'm not confident about anything at this moment."

Ramirez was hitting .455 in four games this season for the Dodgers.

Greinke Undergoes Surgery For Broken Left Collarbone

Ron Vesely/MLB Photos via Getty Images(PHOENIX) -- Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Zack Greinke underwent a 90-minute operation Saturday to fix his broken left collarbone. The right-hander suffered the injury after hitting San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin with a pitch Thursday night, resulting in bench-clearing brawl.

The club said in a statement that a metal plate was used to stabilized the bone. The procedure was performed by Dr. John Itamura and Dr. Neal ElAttrache at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old Grienke is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two starts this season. He has struck out 10 batters in 11 1-3 innings of work.

Left-handed pitcher Chris Capuano will take Grienke’s spot in the rotation. The 2009 American League Cy Young award winner is expected to sidelined for eight weeks.

Dodgers' Zack Greinke Suffers Broken Left Collarbone In Brawl

Harry How/Getty Images(SAN DIEGO) --  Dodgers Pitcher Jack Greinke broke his left collarbone in a bench-clearing brawl with the San Diego Padres on Thursday night during a 3-2 victory.

Greinke hit Quentin in the shoulder on a 3-2 pitch in the sixth inning.  Quentin proceeded to charge the mound as both benches emptied.  Both men lowered their shoulders and collided, which is where Greinke is believed to have broken his collarbone.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly was furious after the game, saying the incident shouldn't have happened because Quentin was hit on a 3-2 pitch in a one-run game.

"That's just stupid is what it is," Mattingly said. "He should not play a game until Greinke can pitch. If he plays before Greinke pitches, something's wrong. He caused the whole thing. Nothing happens if he goes to first base."

Greinke and Quentin were ejected on the spot.  Matt Kemp was also ejected following the fight.  He and Quentin exchanged words while leaving Petco Park after the game.

Juan Uribe hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and help the Dodgers (6-3) escape with the win.

Greinke signed a six-year $147 million contract with the Dodgers in December.

Kershaw Leads Dodgers over Giants, 4-0 On Opening Day

Jason Wise/MLB Photos via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) --  Clayton Kershaw can do it all.

The 25-year-old Kershaw hit his first career home run while pitching a four-hit shutout, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-0 opening day victory over the San Francisco Giants.

Kershaw (1-0) became the first pitcher to throw a shutout and hit a home run in an opener since Bob Lemon did it for Cleveland in 1953.

"Opening Day was everything I could hope for," Kershaw said. "Hopefully we got 161 more of those coming up."

Kershaw struck out seven and walked none in his sixth-career shutout.  Giants starter Matt Cain gave up four hits in six scoreless innings.

George Kontos (0-1), took the loss for the defending World Series champs.
