Marlins Players Glad to See Hanley Ramirez Leave?

Dilip Vishwanat/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- When shortstop/third baseman Hanley Ramirez was traded by the Miami Marlins to the Los Angeles Dodgers, "There were a lot of smiles," an anonymous player told the Miami Herald.

"They created a monster from a very good baseball player - gave him so much slack to do whatever the [expletive] he wanted because he was performing," the player said.

"You can push some things aside when your hitting .340 with 40 home runs. You say he's a [jerk], but I can deal with it. ...But when your not playing and your trying to be that same [jerk], it starts rubbing people the wrong way."

Ramirez hit at least .300 for four straight seasons, but last season he batted .243 and this season he was batting .246 before he was traded.

Asked what Ramirez's absence would mean to the lineup, Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen was frank: "Nothing. Because he wasn't producing."

Ramirez had been with the Marlins since 2006.

Source: Hanley Ramirez Traded to Dodgers

Rob Carr/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Hanley Ramirez is headed to Los Angeles. The Miami Marlins traded the 28-year-old third baseman along with reliever Randy Choate to the Los Angeles Dodgers for starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and minor league pitcher Scott McGough, according to ESPN.com.

Ramirez, a three-time All-Star, has struggled the past two seasons. Last year he only played in 92 games, hitting .243 while dealing with shoulder issues all season. This season, Ramirez is hitting .246, with 14 home runs, 48 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

Ramirez is in the fourth year of a $70 million dollar contract. He is making $15 million this year, $15.5 in 2013 and $16 million in 2014.

Ramirez will most likely play shortstop for the Dodgers, a position he played his whole career until this season when the Marlins acquired Jose Reyes, because the Dodgers starter Dee Gordon is on the disabled list and isn't expected back until mid-August.

Ozzie Guillen Puts the Pressure On Closer Heath Bell

Mike Stobe/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- When the Miami Marlins signed closer Heath Bell to a lucrative free agent contract, they thought they'd be getting the guy who was coming off consecutive All-Star seasons. Instead, he's been one of the worst closers in baseball, and manager Ozzie Guillen has reached his breaking point.

"If Heath Bell does not pitch the way he should be pitching, we are not going anywhere," Guillen said. "If he continues to pitch the way he has pitched, we're done."

Before signing with the Marlins, Bell had established himself as one of hte best closers in all of baseball. He is coming of three consecutive 40+ save seasons with the San Diego Padres but this year has been a different story.

At the All-Star break, Bell has appeared in 40 games overall and has 19 saves which is fifth in the National League. Unfortunately for the Marlins that's where the good news ends with Bell. He has six blown saves and an ERA of 6.75.

The 19-year-old Harper is the youngest position player in history to suit up for Baseball’s Midsummer Classic.

“It's exciting to go,” Harper said. “I'm excited to get there and be around all the top guys in the country, of course, and all the top guys in baseball.”

Stanton was forced to pull out due to a right knee injury.

Carlos Lee Traded to the  Marlins

Major League Baseball(MILWAUKEE) -- After using his limited no trade clause to veto a trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers, outfielder Carlos Lee approved a deal that sends him from the Houston Astros to the Miami Marlins.

Houston receives third baseman Matt Dominquez and left-handed pitcher Rob Rasmussen, both minor leaguers, in the deal.

The Astros will pay almost all of the $9 million still owed to Lee this season except for prorated minimum salary that is about $250,000, according to sources of ESPN's MLB Insider Buster Olney.

The 36-year-old outfielder is hitting .287 with five home runs and 29 RBIs this season.

Carlos Lee will be reunited with Marlins skipper Ozzie Guillen, whom he played for one year as a member of the Chicago White Sox.
