Phil Jackson Fined for Calling Ohio State's Russell a 'Great-Looking Kid'

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The NBA fined New York Knicks president Phil Jackson an undisclosed amount for calling Ohio State freshman D'Angelo Russell "a great-looking kid" and a "great prospect" on Tuesday.

Jackson said those comments to Cleveland.com after watching Ohio State play last week.

The NBA prohibits any scout from giving their thoughts on a player before they declare for the NBA draft.

New York is expected to have one of the top picks in the draft and this is the second time that Jackson has been fined during his tenure as president.

Jackson was fined for tampering with then-Thunder guard Derek Fisher about the open head coaching position last season.

Michigan Upsets (23) Ohio State, 64-57

Mitchell Layton/Getty Images(ANN ARBOR, Mich.) -- Michigan picked up a much-needed win after taking down 23rd ranked Ohio State 64-57 on Sunday.

The Wolverines snapped a five-game losing streak.

Ohio State was behind the Wolverines by as much as 17 points in the second half before making a 14-0 run to make the game 49-46. A Zak Irvin 3-pointer kept the Buckeyes at distance though.

Spike Albrecht led Michigan with 16 points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Even though he's averaging just 6.4 points per game, he was arguably Michigan's best player against Ohio State.

Along with his clutch 3, Irvin also chipped in with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Ohio State freshman guard D'Angelo Russell did all he could to keep the Buckeyes in the game. He scored 16 points with five rebounds and two assists.

Ohio State gets Past (23) Indiana, 82-70

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- D'Angelo Russell wasn't a heralded player heading into this season, but that's all changed as he continued his great play during the Buckeyes 82-70 win over 23rd ranked Indiana on Sunday.

Ohio State has now won three-straight games for the first time in nearly a month, improving to 16-5, and 5-3 in the Big-Ten.

Russell led the way for Ohio State as he scored 22 points, dished out 10 assists, pulled down six rebounds, and also had two steals. He had 13 of the Buckeyes' first 19 points

Forward Jae'Sean Tate also had a big game for the Buckeyes, scoring 20 points on 9-10 shooting.

Entering the game, Indiana averaged just 11.1 turnovers per game, the second-fewest in the Big-Ten. Ohio State forced 15 Hoosier turnovers, which turned into 26 points.

Report: Oregon Receiver Darren Carrington Suspended for Title Game

Stephen Dunn/Getty Images(DALLAS) -- Oregon receiver Darren Carrington has been suspended for the National Championship game against Ohio State after failing a NCAA drug test, according to multiple media reports.

Comcast Sports Northwest reports Carrington, a redshirt freshman, failed a NCAA-administered drug test for marijuana.

Oregon spokesman Dave Williford would not confirm Carrington failed the drug test but did say the receiver did not make the trip to Dallas.

Carrington has been on fire as of late. He caught seven passes for 126 yards and a touchdown in the Pac-12 championship game against Arizona. He also had seven catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns in the team's playoff win over Florida State.

In 10 games this season, the 6-foot-2 Carrington has 37 catches for 704 yards and four touchdowns.

Meyer Prepares for Big Ten Championship

Kirk Irwin/Getty Images(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- Fifth-ranked Ohio State will get one of its biggest challenges this weekend when they play No. 13 Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game.

The Buckeyes lost their starting quarterback J.T. Barrett for the rest of the season after he suffered an ankle injury in their win over Michigan on Saturday, but head coach Urban Meyer has faith in sophomore Cardale Jones.

"We're facing an excellent team," Meyer said on Monday.  "[Wisconsin head coach] Gary Andersen is a dear friend of mine. [He's a] great football coach. We worked together at Utah, and what he's done, they lost their front seven on defense."

Ohio State is averaging 44.1 points this season and Wisconsin is giving up 16.8.

"They're top 10 in pass defense, and rush defense," Meyer said. "[They're] very good players but extremely well coached. And obviously we understand there is another Heisman guy going to be on the field, [Wisconsin quarterback Melvin Gordon], who Gary tells me the best thing about him is he's a wonderful young man too, so that's good for college football."

J.T. Barrett Injury Spoils Ohio State's Win over Michigan

Kirk Irwin/Getty Images(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- Despite a win over their archrival, Ohio State players, coaches, and fans had a bittersweet celebration as Buckeyes starting quarterback J.T. Barrett suffered an ankle injury during their 42-28 win over Michigan.

Barrett, who is a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate, had to leave the game after hurting his ankle early in the fourth quarter.

It has been announced that Barrett will in fact miss the rest of the season with a fractured ankle.

Barrett was thrust into the starting role at the start of the season after an injury to quarterback Braxton Miller knocked him out for the entire season.

As his replacement, Barrett flourished, leading the nation with 42 total touchdowns entering the game.

Taking his place will be backup Cardale Jones. He will make his first start of the season during the team's biggest game of the season: next Saturday's Big Ten championship game.
