Mike Krzyzewski Might Coach Team USA Again After All

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- After declaring that he was walking away from being the head coach of the United States Olympic men's basketball team, Coach K is in discussions to return to the team, according to SI.com.

After the 2012 Olympics in London, Krzyzewski said that he had no plans on returning to the team, and was ready to walk away from international competition. But lately, he's been in deep talks with USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo.

"I think it's very close to being resolved," Colangelo said in the SI.com report. "That's all I can say for sure. Give it another week and it should be resolved."

Since the Americans don't play again till 2014, Colangelo was never in a rush to name Krzyzewski's replacement. SI.com is reporting that Colangelo had yet to even approach any candidates yet.

Krzyzewski was hired back in 2005 after a disappointing finishes in the 2004 Olympics and the 2002 world basketball championship.

Under Krzyzewski, the United States has won two straight gold medals in men's basketball.

Lakers' Dwight Howard Wants to Play In 2016 Olympic Games

NBA via Los Angeles Lakers(NEW YORK) -- After missing out on a chance to win the gold medal for Team U.S.A. in Beijing this past summer, Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard would like to help bring home the gold again in Rio.

Howard would have won a medal this past summer had it not been for undergoing back surgery that kept him off the court the whole time. The Knicks' Tyson Chandler filled in very well for Howard as Team U.S.A. handled the rest of the competition to take home the gold. Howard is determined to be part of the games in 2016

"No dobut," Howard told Mark Medina of the Daily News. "I was (upset) mad I couldn't play in the playoffs and mad I couldn't play in the Olympics. I wasnt' too happy with the fact that I had to have surgery and miss a lot of basketball."

While it is no slam dunk that Howard will be asked to take part in the games, it is more than likely considering Howard is one of hte best centers in the NBA today.

Howard is in his ninth NBA season and is leading the NBA in rebounds at 11.9 per game.

Oscar Pistorius to Be Released on Bail

Bryn Lennon/Getty Images(PRETORIA, South Africa) -- Oscar Pistorius, the Olympian accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day, will be released on bail, a South African magistrate ruled on Friday.

In reading his lengthy decision, Magistrate Desmond Nair said, "The issue before me is whether the accused, being who is and the assets he has [here], would seek to duck and dive all over the world."

He concluded, "I cannot find that he is a flight risk."

Nair did not immediately announce the bail amount the 26-year-old athlete will have to pay.

The fourth and final day of Pistorius' bail hearing opened with arguments from the prosecution that the runner's version of events is improbable and the defense countering that Pistorius had no intent to kill Steenkamp.

Pistorius, who gained global acclaim for racing at the 2012 London Olympics, shot his model girlfriend through a closed bathroom.  He says he killed Steenkamp accidentally, but prosecutors allege that he took a moment to put on his prosthetic legs, indicating that he thought out and planned to kill Steenkamp when he shot her three times through a bathroom door.

Pistorius sobbed Friday in court.  Barry Roux, his defense attorney, said the prosecution has misinterpreted the assigning of intent -- meaning that the runner's intent to shoot at a supposed intruder in his home cannot be transferred to someone else who was shot -- in this case, Steenkamp.

'Blade Runner' Olympian Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Girlfriend

Bryn Lennon/Getty Images(PRETORIA, South Africa) -- Oscar Pistorius, the Paralympic gold medalist known as the "Blade Runner," was taken into custody in South Africa on Thursday and charged with the murder of his girlfriend, who was fatally shot at his home.

"I can confirm that there was a shooting incident this morning at the home of the well known Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius.  At this stage, we can confirm that a young woman, a 30-year-old woman, did die at the scene of gunshot wounds," Brig. Denise Beukes, a spokeswoman for the South African Police Service in Pretoria, said at a press conference Thursday.

Beukes said a 26-year-old man, who police have not named, has been arrested and will be charged with murder.  Police in South Africa do not name suspects in crimes until they have appeared in court.

She said the man requested to be brought to court immediately.

The precise circumstances surrounding Thursday's incident are unclear.  Local reports say Pistorius, 26, may have mistaken his girlfriend for a burglar.

IOC Drops Wrestling from 2020 Olympic Games

JUNG YEON-JE/AFP/Getty Images(LAUSANNE, Switzerland) -- One of the oldest sports in the Olympics will be no more as the International Olympic Committee has dropped wrestling from the 2020 games.

The surprise decision was made to remove wrestling from it's list of 25 "core sports." Eliminating one sport will allow the IOC to add a sport to the program later this year.

The sport of wrestling goes all the way back to the inaugural modern Olympics in Athens back in 1896.

"This is a process of renewing and renovating the program for the Olympics," IOC Spokesman Mark Adams said. "In the view of the executive board, this was the best program for the Olympics games in 2020. It's not a case of what's wrong with wrestling, it is what's right with the 25 core sports."

IOC officials weighed in such factors as television ratings, ticket sales, anti-doping policy and global participation and popularity.

Wrestling will now join seven other sports that will apply for inclusion in the 2020 games. The others include baseball and softball, karate, squash, roller sports, sport climbing, wakeboarding, and wushu. All will be vying for one spot in 2020.

US Men's Basketball Team Routes Australia

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(LONDON) -- The U.S. men's Olympic basketball team earned a triple double from LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant scored all 20 of his points in the second half as it routed Australia 119-86, to advance to the semifinals.

The Australians closed within three early in the second half, but good defense and Kobe Bryant took over from there.

"In the second half we got off to a very bad start," Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "I'm proud of our guys because then there was a lot of game pressure on them, and they really turned up the defense."

The Americans will take on Argentina Friday.
