Who's the Eagles' Starting QB? DeSean Jackson Wants to Know

NFL via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- From the beginning of OTAs, new Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has let it be known that the team will have an open quarterback competition. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson wishes Kelly would make up his mind on who it'll be.

Even though the Eagles drafted USC quarterback Matt Barkley in the fourth round of this past April's draft, the starting job seems to be a battle between Michael Vick and Nick Foles. During OTAs and minicamp, Vick and Foles and have essentially split the reps with the first team offense.

With training camp about a month away, Jackson wants to know who the starter will be.

"The team wants to know, too," Jackson told NFL Network. "We need to go into training camp prepared and know who is going to be our starting quarterback."

"To make any decisions on who someone is from wearing shorts and T-shirts, doesn't make sense to us," Kelly said.

Vick has been the Eagles' starting quarterback since 2010. Foles started six games as a rookie last season.

Michael Vick Says He's Still NFL's Fastest Quarterback

Rob Carr/Getty Images (PHILADELPHIA) --  Michael Vick is out to prove that he is still the NFL's fastest quarterback.

The 32-year-old Vick will be 33 when the 2013 season begins, but said that he possesses more open-field speed than the likes of young quarterbacks Robert Griffin III and Colin Kaepernick.

"These guys are young and they're fast and they're quick; the thing I do have is a very quick get-up," Vick said. "I really don't feel like there's a quarterback in the league who can beat me in a 40-yard dash. If somebody wants to set something up, I'll be more than glad to accept the challenge. But as of right now I'm going to say me. But Colin Kaepernick is fast and RG III is fast as well."

Vick is the NFL's career leader among signal-callers with 5,551 rushing yards.  Last season he averaged 5.4 yards per rush, the lowest total of his 10-year career.

Eagles' Quarterback Matt Barkley Putting Draft Woes Behind Him

Stephen Dunn/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- If former USC quarterback Matt Barkley had declared for the 2012 NFL Draft, he likely would have been a top-10 pick. But he stayed in school and wound up being drafted in the fourth-round in the 2013 NFL Draft. Now that he's in the NFL, he's putting his draft-day plunge behind him.

"I just want to win," Barkley told CSNPhilly.com. "A lot goes into that, and I think if the quarterback is playing great football, then your team is going to win. I just want to be part of the culture and I think Coach Kelly and I have similar beliefs on what it takes to have a winning culture football team."

During his 2011 season, Barkley threw 39 touchdowns and was widely considered the best quarterback prospect in the country. But Barkley passed up the NFL and came back for his senior year. It did not go the way Barkley hoped as he and the team struggled. His touchdowns, completion percentage and passing yards all dropped.

Barkley is expected to compete for the starting job along with Michael Vick and Nick Foles.

Eagles Trade Up To Grab Matt Barkley

Jeff Gross/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly has a new quarterback.

The Eagles made a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars and took former USC quarterback Matt Barkley with the first pick in the fourth round.

"We're going to take the best value on the board," Kelly said. "There's a prime example. The best value on the board by far was Matt. He's an extremely mature young man, intelligent, articulate. He has that 'it' factor."

Barkley hurt his shoulder at the end of his last season at USC, and that coupled with some poor play caused his draft stock to plummet.

"I try not to get stressed about things I can't control," Barkley said. "I'm just glad I know where my home is and I can't wait to hit the playbook."

Eagles' Michael Vick Enjoying Kelly's Offensive Plan

Dilip Vishwanat/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- So far so good with Chip Kelly's offensive plan in Philadelphia, according to Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.

Nick Foles, Dennis Dixon, and Vick took snaps for the first time at the Eagles' predraft minicamp on Tuesday and things went well.

"It's great, it's awesome," Vick said of Kelly's offensive playbook. "It's [like] nothing I've ever seen before as an offense. We do a lot of things that just put the ball into guys' hands and let them make plays."

Even with Foles and Dixon in camp, Vick still believes he is the man that will take the team back to the playoffs in 2013.

"I still feel like it's my team," he said. "I just know I believe in myself ... I believe in my abilities. I know with the right team around me I can lead this football team because I've done it before."

Bills Welcome QB Kevin Kolb To Buffalo

Norm Hall/Getty Images(ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.) -- The Bills welcomed Kevin Kolb to Buffalo on Monday. The free agent quarterback signed a two-year contract worth a maximum $13 million, according to ESPN.

Kolb is expected to compete for the starting job during training camp with returning backup Tarvaris Jackson. The team is also expected to pick up a quarterback in this month's draft.

Kolb was cut by Arizona last month, after spending two seasons in the desert.  In 15 games with the Cardinals, the 28-year-old tossed for 3,124 yards along with 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. A variety of injuries sidelined Kolb for 17 games during his tenure with the Cards.

“I know I can play at this level,” Kolb said. “I’ve done it here and there throughout my career, two-three games at a time. A, we all know I got to stay healthy and that’s where the work comes in right now and of course a lot of it is a little good luck.”

Arizona acquired Kolb in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011, where they signed him to a five-year deal worth $63 million, $20 million of which was guaranteed.

Nnamdi Asomugha Agrees to Join 49ers

Chris Trotman/Getty Images(SAN FRANCISCO) --Nnamdi Asomugha is headed back to the bay area.

The 31-year-old Asomugha has agreed to a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers that is worth up to $3 million.

Asomugha played his first eight-seasons in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders where he was a three-time Pro Bowler. In 2011 he signed a five-year, $60 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was deemed a disappointment, eventually leading to his release this offseason.

While Asomugha has played almost his entire NFL career at cornerback, it is conceivable he'll be moved to safety. The Niners lost Pro Bowl safety Dashon Goldson to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason and need to replace him.

Asomugha played safety for most of his college career at California.

Asomugha Released by Eagles

Chris Trotman/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Nnamdi Asmoghua's time in Philadelphia has come to an end.

The Philadelphia Eagles cut the the former Pro Bowl cornerback Tuesday, after what many considered a disappointing two seasons in the City of Brotherly Love.

"Coach (Chip) Kelly and I each had a chance to speak with Nnamdi earlier and he took the news with a lot of class," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said in a statement. "We expected nothing less than that from him. He has been a true pro on and off the field for this organization and our community and we wish him all the best as he continues his NFL career. We spoke to his representatives at the (Scouting) Combine about his future status with the team and wanted to take time to analyze and make a decision. In the end, Coach and I both felt we needed to move in a different direction at the cornerback position for 2013 and beyond."

Asmoghua signed a five-year, $60 million contract with the Eagles in 2011. During his two seasons with the team, the Eagles went 12-20.

Asmoghua would have made $15 million this season. He will still cost the Eagles $4 million against their salary cap in 2013.
