Penguins' Neal, Asham Suspended By NHL

Bruce Bennett/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- If the Pittsburgh Penguins have any shot at staving off elimination in the first round of the playoffs tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers, they'll have to do it without a pair of key players.

The NHL has suspended forward Arron Asham for four games and forward James Neal for one game for separate hits on members of the Flyers during the team's 8-4 Game 3 loss.

Asham was suspended for attempting to injure Flyers forward Brayden Schenn with a cross-check to the neck and then punching him in the back of the head once he fell to the ice. He was given a match penalty and was ejected from the game. If the series ends before Game 7, Asham will have to serve the remainder of the suspension next season.

Neal's suspension resulted from charging Flyers forward Claude Giroux in the third period of Game 3. Neal was assessed a minor penalty for charging and was ejected. While Asham is known more as an enforcer, Neal's absence will be more felt on the Penguins side. Neal was one of Pittsburgh's most reliable scorers this season, registering 40 goals and 41 assists in the regular season.

The team will also be without forward Craig Adams, who received an automatic one-game suspension from the league on Monday after he instigated a fight in Game 3.

Flyers Fight Off Penguins, 8-4, Take 3-0 Series Lead

Bruce Bennett/Getty Images(PHILADELPHIA) -- The Philadelphia Flyers took a commanding 3-0 series lead on Sunday after they pounded the Pittsburgh Penguins, 8-4.

It was a wild game that included trash talk and a ton of fights.  Both teams had their top defenseman thrown out.

The Flyers blitzed the Penguins with four goals in the first, but Pittsburgh would answer back with two of their own.

But the Flyers would storm back with three goals in the final period to put the Penguins away.

“In the end, that's really playoff hockey," Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. "A couple of the best players in the world dropping the gloves going at it. Would I rather have G keep his gloves on? Sure. But when he's fighting Sidney Crosby, that's playoff hockey. That's this series."

Maxime Talbot and Danny Briere scored two goals apiece in the win for the Flyers.

Flyers Stun Penguins, 8-5, Take 2-0 Series Lead

Gregory Shamus/NHLI via Getty Images(PITTSBURGH) -- The Philadelphia Flyers were down early but stormed back late in the third period to take a commanding 2-0 series lead on Friday night back to Philadelphia.

The Flyers took their first lead of the game after Jaromir Jagr scored to make it 6-5 in the third period and wouldn't let up. Claude Giroux had a hat trick and three assists to set a franchise record for points in a playoff game.  Rookie Sean Couturier also contributed a hat trick of his own in the 8-5 win over the Penguins.

The Flyers trailed three different times in the game.

"I don't know how many times we'll be able to do comebacks like that," Giroux said. "We've got to have a better start."

But Jagr isn't surprised by the scoring outburst late.

"This team can always score goals," said Jagr. "We've got a lot of guys who can score goals."

Sidney Crosby scored a goal in the loss for the Penguins.

"We need to limit our mistakes, that's really what it comes down to," Crosby said. "The mistakes we've made have ended up in our net."

Flyers Storm Back On Penguins, Grab 1-0 Series Lead

Gregory Shamus/NHLI via Getty Images(PITTSBURGH) -- Down by three goals in the first period, the Philadelphia Flyers found a way to scratch and claw their way back into the game and beat the Penguins 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday night.

Jakub Voracek's first career playoff goal was a huge one.  His shot past Marc-Andre Fleury 2:23 into overtime was just what the doctor ordered in Philadelphia.

"It was a lucky bounce for me but I'll take it," Voracek said.

Ilya Bryzagalov finished with 25 saves after the rough first period and the Flyers will look to grab a 2-0 lead on Friday night.

"They came back, which is what they've done," Pittsburgh coach Dan Byslma said. "They're a good team. They don't stop. The second half of the game, we didn't get to our game and where we needed to play as much as we needed to and they got back in it."

Danny Briere added two goals of his own for the Flyers and Brayden Schenn scored the other.

"We got away from our game, that's really what it was," said Penguins star Sidney Crosby who scored a goal in the loss.

Rangers Beat Flyers 5-3, Clinch Top Seed in the East

Len Redkoles/NHLI via Getty Images(PHILADELPHIA) -- For the first time since 1994 the New York Rangers (51-22-7) are the top seed in the Eastern Conference. They earned that seed Tuesday when they upended division rival Philadelphia (46-25-9) 5-3.

The Rangers got to work fast, scoring four goals in the first period and never looked back.

"It's been a long year for these guys, but they deserve the No. 1 seed," Rangers coach John Tortorella said. "Now, in a couple of days, things will change. But I know our guys are excited for that."

The last time the Rangers had the number one seed, they won the Stanley Cup.

Late-Game Brawl Highlights Flyers Victory Over Penguins

Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images(PITTSBURGH) -- If Sunday's game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins gave hockey fans any indication how their first round playoff series will go, it's going to be one to remember.

After the second period, the game was tied at two, but in the third period the Flyers turned up the heat and scored four goals on their way to a 6-4 victory over the arch rivals. But after Jakub Voracek's empty net goal in the third period, Penguins coach Dan Bylsma sent out his checking line to send a message to the Flyers. Penguins forward Joe Vitale leveled the Flyer's Danny Briere, which caused a stir over on the Flyers bench.

Flyers' head coach Peter Laviolette proceeded to scream at Bylsma, and then all 10 players on the ice started to fight each other, with the two benches also yelling back and forth at each other. The fight lasted over five minutes as referees struggled to regain control of the game.

"Those guys hadn't been out there in 12 minutes," Laviolette said after the game. "It's a gutless move by there coach. It's gutless."

The Flyers trail the Penguins by just one point now in the standings with three games to play in the regular season.
