After Knocking Off Chiefs, Steelers Are Playoff Bound

Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL)

(PITTSBURGH) -- Ben Roethlisberger threw for 220 yards and a touchdown to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers past the Kansas City Chiefs 20-12 Sunday.

With the win, Pittsburgh (10-5) locked up a playoff berth for the first time in three years and will have a chance to win the AFC North title next week when they take on Cincinnati.

Despite the loss, Kansas City (8-7) can still make the playoffs if they beat San Diego next week and get some help from other teams. The Steelers pressured Alex Smith all day, sacking him six times. They also held star running back Jamaal Charles to 29 yards on nine carries.

Chiefs At Steelers Preview

Jason O. Watson/Getty Images(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) -- The Kansas City Chiefs still have a lot to play for with two games remaining in the season.

Kansas City (8-6) sits in the seventh spot in the AFC wild card behind the Ravens (9-5) and Steelers (9-5).

"He is a guy that doesn’t get rattled," Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton said of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. "He is one of those quarterbacks that just knows how to keep plays alive scrambling. He is not fast but he is deceivingly quick and just maneuvering and that’s what makes him great."

"I think you have to put him up there with one of the elite quarterbacks especially with the year he is having right now," Sutton continued. "He is just very efficient at what he does."

It's also an important game for the Steelers, who can clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2011.

"We’re not looking at feelings," Steelers veteran linebacker James Harrison said. "We’re going to go out there and play each down and play each quarter and play each half and try to come out with enough good plays to get a ‘W'. We need to win this game. I’ll worry about anything else after we get through this next week."

Andy Dalton: 'A lot You're Playing for in December'

Andy Lyons/Getty Images(CINCINNATI) -- The Bengals are preparing for a tough divisional game against the Steelers on Sunday.

Cincinnati sits atop the AFC North and quarterback Andy Dalton is expecting one of the toughest games of the season against Pittsburgh.

"There's a lot you're playing for in December," Dalton said.  "December usually decides a lot of things, that's when you have to be playing well."

The Steelers are averaging 26.7 points this season and giving up 24.8.

"These games are always really physical," Dalton said of the matchup.  "These are important games because it's a division game, its Pittsburgh, and it's the rivalry.  Everybody gets up for these."

The Bengals are 4-1-1 at home this year and Pittsburgh is 3-3 on the road.

"Really good defense," Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said.  "Their secondary is playing as good as any secondary in the NFL right now."

Blount Is a Patriot Again

Jim Rogash/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Running back LeGarrette Blount is a New England Patriot again.

After being cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday, Blount signed with the Patriots Thursday, the team he played for last season.

ESPN reports the deal is for two years, is worth the veteran's minimum, and comes with incentives.

The 27-year-old Blount was released by the Steelers the day after he left the field -- before the team's Monday night game versus the Titans ended. Reportedly Blount was mad because he didn't receive any carries in the game. He then went unclaimed on waivers.

Blount played a big role in the Patriots making the AFC Championship game last season. He ran for 166 yards and four touchdowns in the team's AFC Divisional playoff win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Blount has played in 10 games this season rushing for 266 yards on 65 carries and two touchdowns.

The Patriots released defensive lineman Casey Walker to open up a roster spot for Blount.

Steelers Release RB LeGarrette Blount

iStockPhoto/Thinkstock(PITTSBURGH) -- The Steelers released running back LeGarrette Blount on Tuesday, following his early exit from the Steelers’ 27-24 win over the Tennessee Titans on Monday night.

Blount left the field before the game ended and headed for the team bus. ESPN reports that he returned after he was called back into the locker room several times, but left again before the start of postgame interviews.

The fifth-year NFL veteran was upset because he was not used in the game, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“We believe the decision to release LeGarette is in the best interest of the organization and wish him the best of luck,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement.

In 11 games this season, Blount rushed for 266 yards and two touchdowns on 65 carries.  He also had six receptions for 36 yards.
