Kings Defenseman Robyn Regehr Announces Retirement

Comstock/Thinkstock(LOS ANGELES) -- Los Angeles Kings defenseman Robyn Regehr announced he plans to retire.

The 34-year-old Regehr told reporters after the Kings final game of the season Saturday that "I'm probably not going to play again."

“He’s not only a good player, he’s a great person, and the best thing about when we got Robyn here was there’s a lot of young defensemen here, and if you look at their seasons, they’re going to learn a lot from Robyn Regehr, all those young players,” Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said. “Robyn and Greener are the quarterbacks back there in the locker room and in terms of professionalism, and every one of those other guys, they’re going to miss Robyn. They’re going to have to take a step forward now.”

When Saturday's game finished, Kings center Jarret Stoll handed the puck to Regehr.

Regehr has played 15 NHL seasons with the Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres and the Kings. During that time he's been to two Stanley Cups, winning one, and played in 1,088 games while recording 199 points.
