Cardinals OF Matt Holliday Day-to-Day

Eliot J.Schechter/MLB Photos via Getty Images(CLEVELAND) -- St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday will be day-to-day after being hit on the elbow during Wednesday night's game against the Indians.

Indians pitcher Corey Kluber hit Holliday on the left elbow by a 94 mph fastball, but X-Rays were negative after the game.

"He's sore," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "It got him in a bad spot. He had trouble getting the soreness out to where he could finish the swing."

Pete Kozma replaced Holliday in the outfield in the second inning and will most likely fill-in while he recovers.

Holliday was batting .346 with three homers and 21 RBI's.

Red Sox Demote Outfielder Allen Craig to the Minors

Brian D. Kersey/Getty Images(TORONTO) -- The Boston Red Sox have seen enough of Allen Craig as the team has decided to demote the five-year veteran to the minor leagues.

In a pair of moves, the team has sent Craig and reliever Robbie Ross Jr. to to Triple-A Pawtucket while promoting outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and pitcher Steven Wright.

"We sent him out to try get back on track and get him more regular, more consistent at-bats, not only for his own production but maybe so he can get into a situation where he can come back and help us," Red Sox manager John Farrell said.

"This is as much about Allen as it is us and the current stretch we're going through," he continued. "We felt like the best and most clear path to get us back on track is to have every player hopefully performing to the best of their abilities. For Allen, that meant more regular at-bats at Triple-A for the time being."

Before coming to the Red Sox in 2014 via trade from the St. Louis Cardinals, Craig was a key member of a team that won two World Series titles from 2011-2013.

Craig hit .291 during his time with the Cardinals, but is hitting just .130 since being traded to Boston.

Adam Wainwright Expected to Miss Rest of Season

Elliot J. Schecter/Getty Images(ST. LOUIS) -- St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright is expected to miss the rest of the 2015 season due to an Achilles injury he suffered Saturday night while stumbling out of the batter's box, a source told ESPN's Jim Bowden, confirming an earlier report by Fox Sports.

The Cardinals placed Wainwright on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with what they termed as an Achilles injury.  He is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday.

"My foot just shut down on me," Wainwright said Saturday after the Cardinals' 5-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Wainwright had a 2-0 lead when he stumbled getting out of the batter's box on his popup that led off the fifth inning. He was helped off the field by a trainer and left the game.
