TCU Crushes Ole Miss in Peach Bowl

iStockphoto(ATLANTA, Ga) -- The TCU Horned Frogs took out their frustration of not making the college football playoff on the Ole Miss Rebels.

With a 42-3 destruction of the Rebels Wednesday, the Horned Frogs took home a victory in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

The Horned Frogs defense brutalized Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace all day. Wallace did not even finish the game as he completed just 10 of 23 passes for 109 yards and three interceptions. Of those interceptions, none was more embarrassing than in the second quarter while under pressure Wallace threw a blind pass in his own endzone to TCU defensive lineman James McFarland. At that point TCU was now up 28-0.

Treyvone Boykin had an interesting day. Boykin completed 22 of 31 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns, yet also tossed three picks. He also carried the ball ten times for 65 yards.

Heading into the final week of the season TCU was ranked fourth and finished thier season with a dominating win over Iowa State.  Ohio State took thier place after winning 59-0 over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship. The Big 12, of which TCU is a member, does not hold a conference title game.

"I don't think I have to say anything," Patterson said when asked after the game what his opinion was of being left out of the college football playoff.

College Football Playoff Set

Football Texture/iStockphoto(NEW YORK) -- The inaugural College Football Playoff is set after the committee announced their final four on Sunday.

The Alabama Crimson Tide got the top seed and will take on the fourth-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes.  In the other bracket, second-seeded Oregon will take on third-seeded Florida State.  Both games are on New Year's Day.

The latest rankings knocked the TCU Horned Frogs out of playoff contention even after their 55-3 win over Iowa State on Saturday.

Alabama will play Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.  The Ducks get Florida State in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

The final playoff rankings had Baylor at number five, ahead of TCU.

TCU Throttles Iowa State

iStockphoto(FORT WORTH, Tx.) -- TCU made its final case why it should be involved in the inaugural college football playoff.

Trevone Boykin pushed the needle as he tossed four more touchdowns in TCU's 55-3 beat down of Iowa State, Saturday. Boykin finished the day completing 30 of 41 passes with 460 yards through the air.  He also caught a 55 yard touchdown pass from David Porter to give the Horned Frogs their first score of the game.

TCU finishes the season with an 11-1 record and is currently ranked third in the college football playoff selection committee’s poll.  The dominating win should solidify their position as they compete for a national title.

Barring any changes or upsets in the top four, the Horned Frogs will likely face the Oregon Ducks, who are coming off a 51-13 victory over Arizona in the Pac-12 title game.

With an 8-1 record in the Big 12, TCU will at least own a share of the conference title.

No. 5 TCU Races Past Texas

iStockphoto(AUSTIN, Tx.) -- Trevone Boykin and the Horned Frogs carved up the Texas Longhorns on Thanksgiving Thursday 48-10.

Boykin finished the day completing 20 of 34 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 50 yards and another touchdown.

TCU's defense befuddled Longhorns quarterback Tyrone Swoopes all day as they intercepted the Texas signal caller four times. Defensive lineman Terrell Lathan also capitalized on a Swoopes fumble; scooping up the loose ball and running it back 40 yards for a touchdown.

The Horned Frogs are 10-1 as they prepare to host their regular season finale against Iowa State.  TCU is currently No. 5 in the college football playoff selection poll.  While they continue to put up impressive scoring and defensive efforts they will likely have to hope Alabama, Oregon, Florida State or Mississippi State stumbles in one of their final games to make it to the final four.

This has been a tough season Charlie Strong in his first year as head coach of the Longhorns. The team will finish 6-6 as he attempts to turn around a program that has fallen into mediocrity.

Gary Patterson: We're Trying 'to Finish the Journey'

Football Texture/iStockphoto(FORT WORTH, Texas) -- The fifth-ranked Texas Christian University Horned Frogs will travel to Austin to take on the Longhorns Thursday.

TCU is on the outside looking in, according to the latest College Football Playoff rankings, but head coach Gary Patterson wants his team to keep doing what they've done all season.

"Our job is to keep our nose down and to finish the journey. That's what we're trying to get accomplished," coach Patterson said.

TCU has won five in a row and the offense is averaging 45.9 points per game.

"All of our running backs have played a part...and Aaron [Green] has had a couple of big ballgames that have really made a difference for us," Patterson said.

Texas is bowl eligible in their first season under head coach Charlie Strong.

(4) TCU Rallies Late to Edge Kansas

iStockphoto(LAWRENCE, Kan.) -- Trailing 27-17 with under four minutes to play in the third quarter, No. 4 TCU scored 17 unanswered points to rally past Kansas 34-30 Saturday.

Kansas took a 27-17 lead after a Michael Cummings 78-yard touchdown to Nigel King with 8:27 remaining in the third quarter. But TCU put together an 80-yard drive on their next offensive possession that ended with a 24-yard touchdown run by Aaron Green to get within three. The Horned Frogs defense then forced a three-and-out on the Jayhawks, which elected to punt. That punt was returned for a 57-yard touchdown by Cameron Echols-Luper to give TCU the lead for good.

Cummings was intercepted by Chris Hackett with 3:26 remaining, securing the victory for TCU (9-1, 6-1, Big 12).

"A lot of people would have lost that ballgame," TCU head coach Gary Patterson said. "There wasn't any style points here other than the fact that we fought back and won the game."

Trevone Boykin threw for 330 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Cummings finished with 332 yards passing and two touchdowns for Kansas (3-7, 1-6 Big 12).

TCU Moves to No. 4 in College Football Playoff Rankings

American Football Field Yard Lines IStockPhoto/ Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- The TCU Horned Frogs moved to No. 4 in the latest Colllege Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday.

While the Mississippi State Bulldogs (9-0) still are sitting at No. 1, TCU (8-1) is followed by Florida State (9-0) and Oregon (9-1) with the Crimson Tide ranking No. 5 in the playoffs.

"For the third consecutive week, the committee looked at the overall body of work, their strength of schedule, and looked at the number of top 25 wins," committee chairman Jeff Long said.

"TCU has two top 25 wins and Baylor has one. And TCU's loss is a top-10 loss. When you put all those factors together, we still think at this time TCU has a better resume and was voted that way ahead of Baylor," he continued.

"I think that our rankings will send the message," Long added. "We as a committee are not charged with sending messages to coaches and ADs about scheduling, but I think it's likely that they will see the factors that we take into account and will take a message from that. But we're not trying to send a message about that. We've said from the beginning, strength of schedule, total body of work, complete resume, all of those are factored into this decision to get to the best four teams and rank our 25."

Mississippi State will travel to Alabama (8-1) on Saturday.

(6) TCU Rolls Over (7) Kansas State

iStockphoto(FORTH WORTH, Texas) -- Trevone Boykin racked up 322 total yards of offense and four touchdowns, leading 6th-ranked TCU to a 41-20 drubbing of 7th-ranked Kansas State on Saturday. The win was important not only to the Horned Frogs playoff aspirations, but also to their hopes of a Big 12 Championship.

TCU (8-1) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to Boykin's two yard touchdown run and 10 yard scoring pass to David Porter. The Wildcats (7-2) did not get on the board until the final minute of the first quarter when quarterback Jake Waters connected with Tyler Lockett on a 70-yard scoring strike.

The Horned Frogs added a field goal in the second quarter, taking a 10-point lead into halftime. Out of the break, Boykin added to his impressive day with a 19-yard touchdown scamper, flipping over a defender at the goal line. Boykin tallied a career high 123 rushing yards and three touchdowns, scoring again on a 23-yard run in the fourth quarter that made it 41-14, while also adding 219 yards through the air.

Waters threw for 291 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Kansas State, but was also picked off as the Wildcats mustered just 34 rushing yards. The loss snapped a five-game win streak for Kansas State and created a three-way tie atop the Big 12. Both Kansas State, TCU and 12th-ranked Baylor are all 5-1 in conference with three games to play.
