Rangers' Yu Darvish to Undergo Tommy John Surgery

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish will have Tommy John surgery and miss the entire 2015 season, the team announced on Friday.

Darvish weighed out his options, but is set for elbow ligament surgery with Dr. James Andrews.

Darvish first felt tightness in the elbow after throwing 12 pitches in a spring training game against the Royals.

This is the same elbow that Darvish was shut down for the final eight weeks of last season.

The Rangers finished with 67 wins last year, after being in back-to-back ALCS games.

Rangers' Yu Darvish Has Torn Ligament in Elbow

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(SURPRISE, Ariz.) -- Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish had an MRI that revealed partially torn ligaments in his right elbow, the team confirmed on Saturday.

Darvish first felt tightness in the elbow after throwing 12 pitches in a spring training game against the Royals.

Darvish will now take a couple days to decide whether he'll try to pitch with the elbow, shut it down for four months, or undergo Tommy John surgery.

"The concern with the first two options is, are you delaying the inevitable?" Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said.

This is the same elbow that bothered Darvish at the end of last season and forced him to shut down the final eight weeks of the season.

"I will be disappointed if I have to miss this season, but I want to look at all the options including getting a second opinion before I make a final decision," Darvish said in a statement Saturday. "My heart is with my teammates and our focus remains on accomplishing our goals."

Rangers Pick Up Beltre's 2016 Option

Rick Yeatts/Getty Images(SURPRISE, Ariz.) -- The Texas Rangers picked up third baseman Adrian Beltre's 2016 contract option.

The option will earn the 35-year-old Beltre $16 million in 2016.

"It was really a no-brainer for us," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "He is one of the best players in the game, a team leader and a future Hall of Famer. We didn't want it to be a story this season."

Beltre joined the Rangers before the 2011 season when he signed a six-year, $96 million contract. During his four seasons in Texas, Beltre has hit .315 with 117 home runs, 376 RBIs and a .364 on-base percentage. He also made three all-star teams and won two Gold Gloves while playing in Arlington.

Red Sox, Rangers Complete Pitching Swap

Major League Baseball(NEW YORK) -- The Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers have swapped pitchers struggling to find their role.

Rangers vice president of communications John Blake announced via Twitter Tuesday that Boston has sent right-hander Anthony Ranaudo to Texas in exchange for left-hander Robbie Ross, Jr.

Ranaudo, 25, displayed fantastic play in Triple A, compiling a 14-4 record in 2014 with a 2.61 ERA and 111 strikeouts over 138 innings pitched. He made his Major League debut last season, but struggled to find the same groove as his ERA ballooned to 4.81 in 39.1 innings of work.

Ross, 25, struggled last season after a transition from the bullpen to the starting rotation. Posting a 6.20 ERA in 78.1 innings, Ross failed to find a role in the Rangers injury-riddled rotation.  He will likely resume his role as a left-handed reliever with Boston, a role he excelled in during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. In his career, he has a 53.8 percent ground ball rate.

Rangers Avoid Arbitration with Moreland

Sarah Glenn/Getty Images(ARLINGTON, Texas) -- The Texas Rangers have agreed to a one-year contract with infielder/designated hitter Mitch Moreland, avoiding salary arbitration, the team announced Friday.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the deal is worth $2.95 million, and Moreland can earn an additional $25,000 in performance bonuses.

The 29-year-old Moreland missed most of last season after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in June. Before the injury, he played in 52 games, hitting .246 with two home runs, 23 RBIs and a .297 on-base percentage.

Moreland was drafted by the Rangers in 2007 and has played all five of his major league seasons with the team.

For his career, Moreland has hit .252 with 65 home runs, 209 RBIs and a .316 on-base percentage.

Yovani Gallardo Excited to Be Back in Texas

Jason Wise/MLB Photos via Getty Images(ARLINGTON, Texas) -- The Texas Rangers introduced pitcher Yovani Gallardo on Wednesday after they acquired him in a trade with the Brewers on Tuesday.

Texas gave up three prospects for Gallardo, who grew up watching the Rangers as a kid.

"Feels great," Gallardo said. "Living in Forth Worth all my life, it's definitely a dream to have the opportunity to play for a team like the Rangers."

Gallardo, 28, has an 89-64 career record over eight seasons, with a 3.69 ERA.

"It might be a little bit different," Gallardo said regarding adjusting to the American League batters.  "I'm still going to go out there and do the same things I've been doing in the National League."

"I'm sure I'm going to have to make some type of adjustment," Gallardo continued.  "That's part of the job, I'm looking forward to taking on that challenge."

Gallardo will be part of a pitching rotation that features Yu Darvish.

"You want to have the ball going out there with a guy that is that kind of pitcher," Gallardo said of Darvish.

Report: Rangers Acquire Gallardo from Brewers

Jason Wise/MLB Photos via Getty Images(ARLINGTON, Tx.) -- The Texas Rangers are taking steps to correct their starting rotation this season.

The Rangers acquired Yovani Gallardo from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for three prospects, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports.

The Brewers acquired second baseman Luis Sardinas, relief pitcher Corey Knebel, and Marcos Diplan, an 18-year-old prospect.  In addition, the Brewers cleared $13 million off their payroll by shipping off Gallardo.

Earlier this offseason, the Rangers acquired Ross Detwiler from the Washington Nationals for two minor leaguers.

Gallardo, 28, has an 89-64 career record over eight seasons, with a 3.69 ERA.

The Rangers will team Gallardo with top pitchers Yu Darvish and Derek Holland as Texas tries to rebound from an injury-riddled season that saw the team finish last in the AL West, at 67-95.

Rangers Sign Colby Lewis to 1-Year Deal

Texas Rangers/MLB (ARLINGTON, Texas) -- The Texas Rangers signed free-agent starting pitcher Colby Lewis to a one-year, $4 million deal Thursday.

The 35-year-old Lewis was originally selected by the Rangers with the 38th pick of the 1999 Amateur Draft, and has played seven major league seasons with the organization -- including the last four.

"We're glad to have Colby back," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "Really, over the last five years, he has been everything we are about. He throws strikes, eats innings and takes the ball. He's the type of pitcher our young guys can look up to."

Lewis returned from flexor tendon and hip replacement surgery last season and made 29 starts for the Rangers, compiling a 10-14 record.

Only Derek Holland and Yu Darvish are currently guaranteed a place in the Rangers' starting rotation. Lewis is expected to be a leading candidate for one of the other three vacant spots.
