Mark Sanchez Explains Why the Eagles Signed Tim Tebow

Jeff Zelevansky/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez isn't worried that his job is in jeopardy after the team signed Tim Tebow to a one-year deal.

"He's obviously a great guy, he works hard. And we needed another guy to throw while [Sam Bradford] is still recovering," Sanchez told CSNPhilly.com. "So that's kind of the reason there [for the signing], at least as it was explained to me."

Sanchez and Tebow were both teammates back in 2012, but Tebow played sparingly.

After starting eight games for the Eagles in 2014, Sanchez re-signed with the Eagles for up to $16 million over two years.

"Coach Kelly knows what he's doing," Sanchez added. "Don't worry too much. It's only April. Things will fall into place. We'll be just fine."

Tebow last appeared in an NFL regular season game during his lone season with the Jets in 2012.

Report: Eagles to Sign Tim Tebow

Jared Wickerham/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Philadelphia Eagles are on the verge of signing quarterback Tim Tebow, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reports.

Tebow worked out with the Eagles in the middle of March, but the team had no plans to sign him back then.

Tebow last appeared in an NFL regular season game when he was with the New York Jets back in 2012. He did spend time with the New England Patriots in 2013, but was cut before the regular season started.

A true media magnet, Tebow was one of the greatest college football players of all time while he was with the Florida Gators.

He was a first-round pick by the Denver Broncos back in 2010, and even led the team to a division title in 2011. Despite his success, his erratic and unorthodox style never quite fit in the NFL, and he's been unable to gain many opportunities to continue his pro career at the quarterback position.

Tebow completed 47.9 percent of his passes for 2,422 yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions during his pro career, while rushing for 989 yards and 12 scores.

Tim Tebow Works Out for Eagles, but Team Doesn't Plan to Sign Him

Jared Wickham/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Tebowmania experienced a sudden jolt on Monday as Tim Tebow surprised the NFL world by working out for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite the workout, ESPN is reporting the Eagles have no plans to sign the former Heisman Trophy winner.

Tebow last appeared in an NFL regular season game when he was with the New York Jets back in 2012. He did spend time with the New England Patriots in 2013, but was cut before the regular season started.

Tim Tebow Joins ESPN as an Analyst, Still Wants to Play Quarterback

Jared Wickham/Getty Images(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- Even though Tim Tebow has signed on to be an analyst with ESPN, he still has the goal of playing quarterback in the NFL again.

The former Heisman Trophy winner signed a deal on Monday to join ESPN's SEC Network. He will become a regular on the network's pregame show starting in August.

Despite his new job, Tebow isn't giving up on his old one. Even though he was cut by the New England Patriots before the season started, he still hopes to play in the NFL again.

"I feel like I'm the best that I've ever been as a quarterback right now. I hope I get the opportunity to show that," Tebow said. "But I'm also looking forward to being part of 'SEC Nation' and part of ESPN."

Tebow is one of the most decorated players in college football history. Along with his Heisman Trophy, he helped lead Florida to two National Championships while at the school from 2006-2009.

He helped lead the Broncos to the AFC West title in 2011, but was seldom used in his last season in the NFL back in 2012 with the New York Jets.

Tim Tebow still wants to be an NFL Quarterback

Jared Wickerham/Getty Images(NEW YORK) --  After being released by the New England Patriots last week, Tim Tebow is still looking for a job.  Once he does find one, he still wants to compete for a starting quarterback job.

Sports Illustrated's Peter King is reporting that Tebow is refusing to change positions after at least one NFL team showed an interest in him.

The report also says that Tebow turned down an offer to play in in the Canadian Football League.

After struggling throughout the preseason with the Patriots, Tebow has said he will be in "relentless pursuit" of continuing his dream of being an NFL quarterback.

After winning a playoff game as a member of the Denver Broncos in 2011, Tebow has struggled to find a role with both the Patriots and the New York Jets.

CFL's Montreal Alouettes Not Interested in Tim Tebow

Jared Wickham/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- With Tim Tebow's NFL future in doubt, some feel that he is best suited to play in the Canadian Football League. But the team that holds his rights, the Montreal Alouettes, don't want him.

Back in April, Alouettes general manager and interim coach Jim Popp offered Tebow a chance to compete to be a backup to starting quarterback Anthony Cavillo.

But now, the team is moving on from Tebow.

"We've never had a conversation with him or his representation," Popp said. "It's all for talk and there's nothing there. There's no substance to it"

Pop thinks Tebow's camp would have to approach them in order for any mutual interest to be sparked.

"I don't think they would be ready to do that," Popp added. "But if they are...I'm sure they'll call us."

Tebow was recently cut by the Patriots after signing with them during the offseason.

His lack of consistency has plagued Tebow during his pro career. While he did lead the Broncos to a playoff win over the Denver Broncos in 2011, he's also completed just 47.9 percent of his passes.

Patriots Cut Tim Tebow

Jared Wickerham/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The New England Patriots have cut backup quarterback Tim Tebow, reports ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Tebow threw two touchdown passes and finished 6-of-11 for 91 yards with an interception on Thursday night in the Patriots 28-20 win over the Giants.

"I'm not sure. I don't make those decisions," Tebow said about the situation on Thursday. " ...I'm blessed because of my faith that I don't have to worry about the future because I know who holds my future. A lot of times people use that as a cliche, but it's something I try to live by. It really gives you a lot of peace in whatever circumstance you're in."

Tebow signed with the Patriots in the offseason after being released by the New York Jets.

The Patriots will keep tight end Rob Gronkowski on the 53-man roster, Schefter also reports.

Tim Tebow on Final Cut

Jared Wickerham/Getty Images(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) -- Patriots backup quarterback Tim Tebow made his case to survive the final roster cut on Saturday.

Tebow threw two touchdown passes and finished 6-of-11 for 91 yards with an interception on Thursday night in the Patriots 28-20 win over the Giants.

All 32 NFL teams will have to trim their roster down to 53 by Saturday.

"I'm not sure. I don't make those decisions," Tebow said about possibly making the final cut. " ...I'm blessed because of my faith that I don't have to worry about the future because I know who holds my future. A lot of times people use that as a cliche, but it's something I try to live by. It really gives you a lot of peace in whatever circumstance you're in."

The Patriots have kept two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster in three of the past four years.

Lions Clobber Patriots 40-9 in Preseason Clash

Gregory Shamus/Getty Images(DETROIT) --  The Detroit Lions were clicking on all cylinders Thursday, forcing four first-half turnovers on their way to a 40-9 preseason victory over the New England Patriots.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady completed 16 passes for 185 yards, but threw his first interception of the preseason in the first quarter.

"That's a Hall of Fame quarterback, and we flustered him a little bit," Detroit wide receiver Nate Burleson said about Brady.

Matthew Stafford finished the game with 166 passing yards and a touchdown.  Running back Reggie Bush caught five passes for 103 yards.  Calvin Johnson was held out of the game as a precaution.

"We were down a big playmaker in our offense tonight and our defense knew that, showed up and played great," Stafford said. "It's about the team, man."

Tim Tebow suited up for the Patriots but did not play.

Tom Brady Fine Against Buccaneers

Jim Rogash/Getty Images(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was fine after his start against the Buccaneers on Friday.

Brady completed 11 of 12 passes for 107 yards, and threw one touchdown in New England's 25-21 win.

Brady started the game two days after he hurt his knee during practice and led the team 80 yards down the field which ended with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Danny Amendola.

"We wanted to start fast. That was our goal," Amendola said. "I felt like we made some plays early and it was good that we got on the board early, too."

Tim Tebow followed Brady and completed just one of seven passes for minus-1 yard.

"Some things we did well. Some areas have got to get better and got to improve," said Tebow, who also threw an interception.
