Brett Lawrie Placed on DL

Abelimages/Getty Images(TORONTO) -- The Toronto Blue Jays placed third baseman Brett Lawrie on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a left ankle sprain.

Lawrie suffered the injury during the Jays' 9-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves Monday when he was stealing second base. Lawrie stayed in the game for one more batter but then was pulled for a pinch-runner.

The DL stint is retroactive to Tuesday because Lawrie couldn't play in Toronto's 7-6 loss to the Braves Tuesday.

The Jays have called up right-handed pitcher Todd Redmond from Triple-A Buffalo, and selected the contracts of lefty Juan Perez and right-hander Neil Wagner from Buffalo as well. First baseman Clint Robinson was designated for assignment.

The 23-year-old Lawrie is hitting .209 with five home runs, 14 RBIs and a .268 on-base percentage this season.

McCann Powers Atlanta Past Toronto, 7-6 in 10 Innings

Tony Firriolo/MLB Photos via Getty Images(TORONTO) -- Brian McCann belted two home runs, including a  go-ahead blast in the top of the 10th inning as Atlanta (31-20) outlasted Toronto (22-30) on Tuesday, 7-6.

The 29-year-old McCann hit his first homer following an Evan Gattis solo shot in the top of the 6th to give the Braves a 6-5 lead. Then in the 10th, McCann connected on 1-0 pitch off of Blue Jays reliever Thad Weber for his sixth long ball of the season.

In the bottom of the 10th, Braves closer Craig Kimbrel led off the inning by walking Adam Lind. But he retired the next three batters to notch his 16th save in 19 attempts.

Blue Jays starter Brandon Morrow had to leave the game after pitching two innings due to soreness in his forearm.

Jose Reyes Begins Running In Recovery From Sprained Ankle

The shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays ran on Friday for the first time since suffering a severely sprained ankle on April 12.

"I just started running a little bit. I'm very happy the way that I performed yesterday...Better than I expected, Reyes said.  "As I said, I'm going to continue to work the hardest I can to be on the field as soon as possible."

The 29-year-old Reyes put pressure on the ankle for the first time since he was injured sliding awkwardly in a game against the Kansas City Royals.

"It was a little bit scary for me," Reyes said of his first time running. "But pain free."

After running the next steps in the recovery process for Reyes include batting practice and fielding ground balls.

He is still not expected to return to the Blue Jays until after the All-Star break.
